RPG Player ASM by thebiob

I while ago I posted a request in the request section for an Action Adventure Overhead type character. The whole goal was basically to request a new type of character that could be used in a Zelda like game.

Well thebiob took up the challenge and though his awesome ASM brilliance he did it!

I encouraged him to post his results here for C3, yet I don't know if he is and C3 is ending soon I am going to post this anyway. How could I not post this as it's too awesome not to show off?

Here is one application of the character. Do you hate making over worlds and wish you could make an over world in a regular level? If your answer is yes, then here you go.

The character actually has 3 alternating frames of animation yet I messed up when I inserted the graphics and only got in 2 frames. If I had did it correctly Mario would walk exactly like he does on the over world.

The character can walk in all directions even diagonal ones.

With this, one could make an over world area in a regular level and have warp tiles leading to regular levels.

This character can also be equipped with a projectile (if desired) as a weapon and can shoot stuff and kill enemies.

All credit goes to thebiob as he did all the ASM. I just requested it. I will let him post the code though.
Thread title should've been: Super Mario World but it's kinda like Zelda 2.

Memes aside, this looks pretty cool, and the projectile shooting function is quite an interesting and fun addition! Good job @TheBiob and thanks for showing this off @Final Theory, although I was expecting a release. :P
Oh hey, this looks awesome! And if it's level specific (like I think the request was), that means it's exactly what I need for a certain level in my project too. Makes it possible to create a Zelda style dungeon...

Great work TheBiob!

As for Mario's Nightmare Quest? Well, it's currently on Fusion Gameworks, ROM Hacking.net or the GCN at the moment.
Uhm this is... unexpected?
I'm not even done with it yet lol

It has 4 animation frames and 3 graphical frames. The second graphical frame is used twice as a 'transition frame' between the two others though every animation frame can be changed in the asm file.

It *theoretically* is level specific however it does require you to modify the player tilemap/graphics (I think there is a patch that makes these level specific as well however I never tested that)

Again I'm not even done. However if anyone cares for the current code it is (and has been for a while) in my 'unreleased stuff' tab in my bio (direct link to file)
This is utterly awesome. Imagine if we had a hack mixing RPG levels and regular platforms levels, kinda like Link's Awakening but inverted. O.O
I am astonished. I liked an old system made by WYE if I recall correctly, even though it was a bit limited. This looks very polished and flexible. TheBiob made an awesome job. I hope he submits the codes for the public.

Okay, sounds good. So long as the basic ASM code can be run on a per level basis, then I can find the existing patch/level ASM/whatever that's used to make player graphics level specific.

Was just hoping it'd be able to work for a world of Zelda style levels viewed with this perspective, which it seems like it will.

Would love to see this ASM/Patch developed more.

It's a cool concept to bring this style of game play into SMW.
Are there any other features in mind for it?

Charge shot was suggested
Other than that probably most ideas I might get while coding it.
