man that looks good. I don't even know what I can say. the background/fg/layer3 make it look like Mario is the size of a mouse though. If that matters.

Haha that gimmick is awesome. I feel like there's a lot of potential there, I'm looking forward to what else you can come up with design wise! Aesthetically it looks fantastic.
you really nailed the dystopian look, the screen in the background is a nice touch. it really feels oppressive without being monotonous.

not really a huge fan of how all the enemies come out with absolutely no forewarning but i think you've nailed the visuals.

Well, the whole gimmick is to 'stroll carefully'. That's why the first enemies Mario sees pop out are harmless fish, so the player can be like 'oh well shit's popping out of the walls here better be careful'
i think it's the size of the windows. They make you think they're normal sized windows and so comparatively, Mario and his rag tag team of fish, koopas, and goombas are all mini relative to a normkal sized window, you know?
I think it's the dimensions. Having them be smaller, or maybe even just taller, could help. But again idk if it's the kind of thing that would actually ruin somebody's gaming experience lol

Looks pretty sweet so far. The graphics remind me of megaman.
Like hobz said, maybe making the windows lower or larger would look better.

The whole thing isn't really anything special yet, but I'd still like to know what you guys think about design and such thus far. Ignore the obvious issues, like the footballs and line guide ends please.

Reznor is kinda a lame boss, but like the level needs it so I probably will.
I really like the idea of the second room, but I feel like it could be a bit unfair with the footballs (is this what you were talking about?)
It would also be really neat if you had little windows to the sides so you can sorta see what obstacles are coming next.

But yeah, I see a lot of potential with this; good job so far.
Really creative level so far, allowiscous! Like FrozenQuills said, the second room's got a good idea, but it's kind of unfair as you're mostly praising that you're not going to die, as you don't have very much space. I'd recommend making the window of space you have bigger so the player doesn't panic and end up falling into the lasers and dying.

Other than that, I'm loving this! Sure, Reznor may be a lame boss, but you may as well use him one way or another in this city. I can't wait to see what you'll do for the second half!

There is a layer 3 submap behind the layer 2 background, set to scroll slower than the layer 2 one for the cool parallax effect.

You mean the moving one? There's a setting for it in the layer 3 configuration tab.

Thanks! I already removed the footballs, but windows are a great idea. I may eventually turn it into a train-like entity with wheels and such so windows would fit a lot more. That's last though, I'd like to design the level proper first.

I'll see what I can do. I like the current amount of space, but I also like the current setup as well, so I'm a bit conflicted on how to fix it.

Demo2!

This demo isn't much different, but I'd like to know how the rooms feel to you guys. Does anything feel cheap? Is it fun? Ect. ect. ect. ect.
The 1st autoscroller is a lot better and fun, and the 2nd autoscroller is hectic but manageable and also fun.
There's a dragon coin at the midpoint that glitches up when you collect it, and the midpoint respawn doesn't work, btw.
