Hi there! This is my entry for VLDCX (My first for any VLDC, to be exact).

I've been working on this level for a week or two, but I've only gotten a bit of it done so far. Here, have a few screenshots.

As you can see, the gimmick of the level is swimming through bubbles floating in the air. Some bubbles are blue and pink, while others are green, meaning that they're poisonous. You will have to avoid these green bubbles throughout the level. There are also pipes that have bubbles emerging from them.

That's all I have for now. Feedback is appreciated! #smw{:peace:}

The concept is very interesting, I would like to see more screenshots of this level

The background looks too shining, try to darken it a bit. Besides that all is looking good #smw{:TUP:}

Oooh this idea is awesome, and the level looks really great!! I would say that the dirt tiles are a little too dark, but weirdly enough I think it looks good the way it is! It's all very abstract and looks really good!!

You have a lot of potential ideas with this gimmick, try using various sprites that are affected by water, such as thrown spinies, floating brown platforms, etc.

Also the background is fine I think but make the background hills more of a gradient maybe. For a first entry, this looks really great!!
Another floating water gimmick. Cool. Though the foreground color clashes with the background color. Make the foreground as vibrant as the background, and you'll be good.

Keep this up!

I'd work on the palettes for the background rocks and foreground dirt. Pastels would probably work well here.

Looking forward to see how the bubble gimmick works :)
This level looks really sweet #fim{<3}
A nice idea which can be used in wany interesting and creative ways. I´m curious where this leads to.

Also i think to desaturate the background a bit may be a good decision.

--------------------
This idea seems to be genial. My suggestion is to make the background more desaturated and fix that violet shade.
Calling Tim Follin a musical genius would be offensive to him.
Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Here are some screenshots that show a bit more of the bubble gimmick (and the enemies).

I changed the purple shading to something more green, and darkened the sky. I think it looks much better than what I was originally going for.

And for those wondering what the music is, click here.

The foreground still needs to be more vibrant to match with the background's vibrant colors. It looks weird as of now.

i think it's a neat contrast that makes the background pop more and makes it look overall less monotonous. i'd personally recommend keeping it.
These palettes are super cool. Wow.
Your level looks pretty near so far. It's an interesting gimmick and looking from the screenshots you're doing a fairly good execution.

I'd only worry with two things:

1. While your background is okay, I'd reduce the amount of red on it. It's too much hot.

2. Since the bubbles are completely transparent, if you make a large bubble, the level may get a bit confusing because you won't know if you're in a middle of a bubble or in air. Not sure what to do on this case. But it should not be a big issue, I guess.

Good luck!

This level is adorable. I like that the bubbles are transparent, you can avoid the problem Vitor pointed out by making the bubbles not too large.

I know. I kinda made the level that way. When I got the idea of the whole bubble thing, I wanted to make the level feel Kirby-like, but with a bit of a challenge (I added poisonous green bubbles to balance the difficulty). The premise of swimming in bubbles isn't very threatening, is it? #smw{^_^}

Now, I did change the red to a blue in the background, but I actually added something to the bubbles. I added air bubbles inside the bubbles, as seen here:

This will probably fix the large bubble issue you pointed out, but I don't think I'll have a bubble of that size in the level anyways.

Oh, and thanks for the good luck!

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The dull foreground/grass colors clash with the vibrant background colors. Once again, change the grass colors to a more vibrant color to make the whole theme of the level happy-go-lucky. Having it be dull would just look very off.

This is your third post in this thread commenting on the foreground color. If he wanted to change it he would've by now.

This looks like it's shaping up to be a nice, fun level! It will be cool to see what you can do with the gimmick to wow the player.

Don't be so forceful. Remember that your comment is merely a suggestion and he isn't required to follow it, especially considering some of the other posts are suggesting the exact opposite! This isn't your level.

If after your third post E-man doesn't implement your suggestion, he's probably not doing it for a reason. Please don't post it again.
I'm just saying that having the foreground be dull and the background be vibrant or vice versa looks really odd, and should remain consistent. Plus, having an abstract-ish level should feel vibrant, otherwise it doesn't feel "abstract" so much. However, since we have so much Abstract levels there's a good chance the level may not be put in the world.

Even still, I'm sorry I've been forceful. I just want everyone to have a chance at winning the contest, not just me. I'm just trying to help.

When did he even say this was an abstract level? lol the palettes look fine as they are. And how would making them "vibrant" immediatly give E-man a chance at being in the best world anyways?

btw spoilers: not every abstract level even needs to be super colorful just because of vldc9's vaporwave overworld map.
