Honestly I find this as a neat level concept. Good job! Keep up the great work.

Guys, stop derailing the thread. Please take this conversation somewhere else.
I actually really like the darker foreground; it combined with the bubble water makes for a kind of swampy aesthetic without looking like raw sewage. Looking good so far.

Quick update:
Here's what the current background looks like.

Not bad at all. It's a start to making that rocky mountain background arranged to make it look totally unique.

Quick Update #2:

I renamed the level to Bubbly Heights because it has a more athletic-esque theme now.

I also edited the background a bit more.

I also have a couple more screenshots.

This was a nice touch for your first VLDC level! The floating bubbles make this level a more Abstract feel rather than the usual Grassland type.

Also, I don't think the color palette of the grass FG looks kinda swampy, but the colors of the bubbles looked very pretty and pastel-colored.

I also dig the "air bubbles inside air bubbles" idea!

Bubbly Heights is almost complete! I just need to make and touch up on a few more things, and it'll be done.

Here are the final screenshots: (I think)

Expect the level to be complete around the following/next week. March 27 may still be a few weeks ahead, but I want to get this entry done soon so I can work on something that has yet to be revealed.

MISCELLANEOUS STUFF: (in technicolour)

- This level's theme is Athletic/Mountain/Abstract (maybe)

- This level will have a moon and Dragon Coins. There's no secret exit.

- The gimmick involves swimming through bubbles floating in the air.
You'll have to avoid fish, spinies, and poisonous green bubbles, while jumping from bubble to bubble, platform to platform in order to get to the end of the level.

- There will be Blue Switch Blocks.

- The HDMA gradient is fake. I haven't figured out how make a real one yet.

- There's no Layer 3. Haven't figured out how to make that either. :/

Oh, and one more thing:

- Feedback would be appreciated! #smw{;)}

Looking good so far. The bubbles are an interesting idea, it gives you a lot more freedom with the water tiles' placement and it appears you have done a lot with it already. The aesthetics are also good, but I prefer the previous FG palette, to be honest. I'm not sure if I like the introduction as it is - never been a fan of explaining new elements in message boxes, if you can find a way to make the green bubbles look more deadly it would be great.

By the way, I'm pretty sure you can't do actual HDMA with vanilla, so keeping the fake HDMA should be fine.
Sweet Level, Those Bubbles really look bubbly

Hey, all. I'd like to announce that Bubbly Heights is now complete! (yayyyy hoorayyyy)

ill play it but only because you're so enthusiastic~

- something with this port seems off... like one of the channels are desynced or something. it grew on me though
- im not a big fan of the fg colour. It clashes pretty dramatically with the bubbles/bg and ruins the otherwise cheery mood with dread
- maybe lighten up on the green bubble death ceiling a bit. It makes things feel super cramped, and the unprodictability of jumping out of water and get you killed a lot
- the way you introduced the falling spinies was awesome! loved the heads up
- really good place for a moon, you probably dont even need that
coin indicator
i found it fine before i even saw it.
- mushrooms bounce off the green bubbles lol

Overall I had a lot of fun. I can see some people getting tired of the idea, the level is fairly long without doing too much with the idea. But for what it is it's a lot of fun to play through!
Oh boy, an update.

This just a small update, with a few different enemy placements here and there, some given advice put into play, and a new name.

(so it's technically Bubbly Heights v.1.1.)
