[024] An Army of Tanks!





An autoscroll level. Issacool.
The tanks don't look very good and they're cutoff. Use another graphics to design them. Another flaw is the darkest grass palette. Fix it a bit.

Have to agree. I know it may take some time and effort but it´ll be worth it to avoid the cutoffs.

Also i don´t have to mention this idea isn´t anything a brand new innovative thing, have i? Some people like the tank idea, some don´t. Try to keep the autoscroll at least interesting without excessively sprite-spamming.








The super pixelated piece of wood above mario in the second screenshot bothers me more than the cutoff imo.

I think this idea could work though. That monty mole replacement is kinda funny.

I think this would be quite novel if the ground+bushes were on layer two, scrolling constantly to the right at a rate slightly higher than the autoscroll, as it was in SMB3.

Looks like something out of SoStH-era fake Sonic level photomanips (or "hoaxes" as they called it) lol

The Mega Mole just looks... awkward and jarring.
I hope it's just glitched graphics.

I guess it kind of looks like a kiwi or a dodo (if that was your intention?), but it also looks like the game loaded the wrong GFX file.

It is. Also, by autoscroll I meant fast, I didn't know that autoscroll was a derogatory term. Anyway, I'm uploading a gif of the level, it may not be the best quality but its something. And I know one of you people will just quote what I said there and say it about my level, and I understand.
It could use some touching up, but honestly think it looks pretty sweet. Good luck, man!

The base foreground is okay. The background, as far it's layer 3, I think it's a bit empty. Putting some smaller clouds in mid-high screen would certainly help.

Now for the tanks and stuff, while they're interesting, there's some pretty bizarre graphics design, specially the wheels...... They look rather drunk donuts than anything else.

While that level concept is rather common, it's not so bad and I don't remember the past VLDCs having a similar level scheme.

Be sure to polish your levels well and make a good execution out of it. There's many possibilities, including entering inside tanks, variety enemies or even plot change (idk, make half of a level are regular tanks and another half use another kind of tank or even get inside an airship).

Either way, good luck on this! You will have some time to improve it, so get on the work and make something good out of it.

Level looks interesting so far.
I feel like some smart utilization of the tile merging rule would let you create the tank style graphics in a much smoother way. The recolour rule would also help you make the angled tank pieces on the underside have a darker shading style, to match the darker shading of other underside pieces, if you end up still using the pencil spike piece for that.
Will there be going inside the tanks.
