So, I haven't done any SMW hacking for quite awhile, but I decided to participate in this year's VLDC! After playing around with some themes (I've typically done tropical or plant-based levels for collabs, so I wanted to try something a little different), playing with the Ghost House cloud tiles led me to make stage curtains. Thus, the theme of this level became a Broadway-esque stage show! Here are some screenshots of the first half:

and for a little preview of the second half, which takes place above the stage! Be careful on those rafters!

Any questions/comments? :3

I'd suggest making the background darker, right now there are some screenshots where it's hard to tell what's FG and what's BG. Namely the ones with the purple and blue diamond background.
It's a unique and interesting concept (similar to Stadium of Plants last vldc) but I'd be careful with the aesthetics.
Make sure the foreground and background are easily distinguishable and that it doesn't have visual overload.
For example some of the notes can seem distracting; maybe make the notes blend into the background more or take away some of them.
I've been playing with the colors a bit, but I'll work on it a little more to make better contrast between the background and foreground. I also removed some of the musical notes to clean up the visuals a bit.

It's rare to see those giant ghost ship planks used nicely—looking good! The zany pokey "accidental" resprites are very thematic, too.

Still working on the second half, haven't added all of the sprites yet so it's a bit empty, but the structure is pretty much done. Here are a couple of small screenshots, just wanted to show that progress is still being made! :3

and here's a city background I made for a small dragon coin side room that takes place above the theater! The red bars flash between 4 different colors. I wanted to keep it relatively simple but still give it a bit of a Broadway feel.

On a side note, does anyone have a good music recommendation for this level?

Also, nice level, dood!
Not sure where to put here... or is it? (Also: Yay! Old layout!)

Thank you! I also gave the song a try, and it works well with the level!

Now time for an update! The second half is complete, so here are some screenshots!

Also, a couple of screenshots of the side-room for one of the dragon coins:

Nice level, karatekid5.

The level itself is colorful and wondeful.
I see a mix between a storage, theater and factory, which is cool.

I wonder what port(s) you used for this level?
How many sections have this level?
Looks pretty good, the aesthetics are solid from what I can see and the design seems just as good so far. I heavily recommend darkening the background(s) a bit, though - it's really hard to distinguish it from the foreground in some areas (the red bricks in the BG at least, specially since they're very vibrant when compared to everything else).
This is a great concept. I wanted to toy around with the idea of a bonus/special stage and this is pretty much spot on, I'll have to find something else lmao

I'd say work a bit more on the palette to make the fg stand out more, maybe make the whole thing less busy overall so that it won't look too messy. But you've got the overall design nailed down, you should continue down this road.
I'm still playing with the palette a bit, though I darkened the color of the red bricks in the second room to make it look less like the foreground.

Now the level is ready to play, so here's the BPS Patch! Let me know if you have any feedback, and have fun! :3
