Since world 1 is going to be a snow world, this will be an ice castle.

I haven't started workig on the level yet, I'll probably start this week-end or on Monday the latest, but I want to share the ideas I have for this level first.

I checked the level in the base ROM, and most of them are vanilla styled, but a few use custom graphics. I want to use a custom tileset that's not too elaborate, so I chose this one since it reminds me of the SMB3 castle graphics and it goes well with the vanilla BG. I'll edit the palette so it looks frozen.

For the music, I haven't decided yet, but I got several options (1, 2, 3, 4), I'll probably design the level first and then play it with all four themes and chose the one that fits the most.

I'm planning to use ice themed enemies like Ice Bros and Bucket Heads, and castle enemies. Since this is a world 1 level, I won't make screens cramped with enemies like I usually do.

Finally, regarding the gimmick, I'm planning to use either blocks that can be melt with a fire flower or freezing water (with ON/OFF switches or P-switch) or a combination of both. I've worked with both of these gimmicks before, so I'm confident I can use them in a creative way, and I have a few ideas to combine them with walljumps.

I'll post some screenshots as soon as I have something. Thoughts and suggestions are welcome.

If you make use icy physics, please adjust the difficulty to compensate. This is world 1, after all.

I could use these so only some parts of the level are slippery (Or even just restrict it to ice blocks and make the FG normal), although I'd need to claim several blocks if I use it on slopes, so I don't know if that would be okay.

btw, I'm going to need the password for the tool folders.

First half is done

The gimmicks will be more visible in the second half, although I need to think about other reasons the player could have to freeze the water other than using it as a wall jump. Maybe I'll use normal ON/OFF blocks as well.

By the way, who's going to be the boss of this castle, if it has a boss at all?

Notes:

-Has two Yoshi Coins.
-Ignore the lack of dirt, the level is still in progress.
-Ignore everything after the door, I set it to level 25 so LM doesn't annoy me about having door leading to level 0 all the time.

I'll have the full level in one or two more weeks.

The boss should be an ice/snow boss. Btw, can you use tile 1F0 in the second half? It'll be fun.

This isn't VLDCX.

Really, though, this level already has two gimmicks, so unless tile 1F0 can contribute to those gimmicks, I'd just be using it for the heck of it, which is not a good idea.
Full level

The level still doesn't have dirt (I will add it after I get feedback on this version) and the boss door leads back to the beginning of the level because I still don't know if I'm supposed to add a boss.
