Awesome hacking ideas

I had an idea. With WhiteYoshiEgg's overhead view thing that came out for C3, someone could make a Mario Party-esque hack! Of course, some big expansions on the system would have to be made, but I'd say it's feasible.
I just thought of a way to get more custom sprites into a ROM. You know that "ASM pointer" window in Tweaker? Well, what if you changed the sprite pointers so that they all went to the same place...which JSL'd to some free ROM to an all-new pointer routine? You could do any number of things, including replace the unused sprites with real sprites, but...what if you made all of the sprites that don't already use the extra bit use them? You could potentially have another C8 sprites! I don't really know how sprite numbers beyond C8 work, though...those might be slightly trickier. But if anyone got them to work as well, we could even use the null sprites with numbers F6-FF.

A Switch Palace idea I have is a "quiz" switch palace, one where you have to answer random trivial questions relating to the hack by flipping blocks or something. If you answer all the questions correctly, you get to the room with the switch. If you answer it wrongly, you battle an enemy (or maybe even a mini-boss). If you answer 3 wrongly, you die.

Reminds me of Cinnabar Island's gym from the first Pokemon games.
Here's my idea.
You know the Red Coins in the Mario games? Collect 7 and get some power/star/thingy? I'm thinking about doing something like that, with blocks and the 1-2-3-4 life thingies. Put each under a Map16 tile, that is a normal turnblock with a pallate change. Once you hit the block and get the life thing, it turns normal. Once you get all 4, you get a life.

Wow, that looks like a really good idea you have right there. Maybe custom blocks could also be used so you could get those points by hitting a ? block or something.

Anyway, I always thought about a horror Mario hack (kinda like Silent Hill) starring Luigi, where he gets a letter from "Mario", who had been dead for 3 months already, so it would be superstitious. Mario would invite him to an island, where, apparently, he'd be waiting for him. Of course, this would all drive Luigi into a massive, horrifying, gruesome and maybe deadly encounter with the most terrifying things ever on the island. Add a deeper storyline, deeper backgrounds about it and possibly the scariest Mario hack ever could be made.

How about a boss battle against dracula in castlevania SotN including the cool cutscene (WAT IS A MAN *shatter* AH MISERABLE LITTLE PILE OF SECRETS) since it's a pretty epic Idea. If not maybe a tohou battle would be as epic.

How about a sprite that displays a "Fission mailed screen" in a certain level, maybe after you fall from a platform and you were supossed to die like normal, only that instead of dying you get teleport to that screen, and if you wait for a few seconds, you´l end up in another level.
Change Mario and Luigi to a Chain Chomp.

Change all the bad guys to Toads and Yoshis.

Bowser set you free to go destroy The Mushroom Villages and Yoshi Islands.

The Title: OFF THE CHAIN


A hack where it is only possible to hit one big switch. (Switch palace switches)

Maybe, using level ASM, switch graphics in a level.

Example: You´ve just passed a level that was the interior of a moon base, and mario had his normal graphics, but the next level, is now the outer space, thus mario has now an astronaut suit!

I´ve thought of this for a long time, but now i think it´s possible with Level ASM, or what do you think?

actually, you could just use the MarioExGfx patch... probably a lot easier, doesn't even need level ASM since you already change it based on level.
Okay, a mario hack where you are a cat and if you eat a cheeseburger (red mushroom) you turn into longcat and if you get a something else (flower) you turn into a white long cat that shoots lasers from its eyes. And the battles can be against ceiling cat and stuff. I think it's a good idea.

How about a hack with two storylines?
Separate storylines, you know what I'm saying? (Like SA2?)

Like you make two separate hacks and merge them into a single one.
Then, after you beat the two storylines, you unlock the final story.

In the intro, you could pick which story you wanted to play, rather than using separate hacks.

Or, alternatively you could have a series of hacks within one hack so that when you beat the first, you unlock the second, when you beat the second, you unlock the third, etc.

It would take a lot of work, though.

Wouldn't it be easier to just use the Password Blocks at the beggining of the next hack, and supply the password at the end of the previous hack?

I'm not sure how that would work, but I do know that all the games would have to be Super Mario World, but I don't have a clue if it's possible or not, or if you can make it so that a game is hidden until you beat the other games.

It would be easier, but then the player would have to remember the password in order to get by. And if the player forgets/loses the password, or doesn't bother memorizing it or writing it down, they won't be able to play the final game.

Sorry if this has already been said, but I think that using level 24 as a Ghost House would be a pretty good idea. Especially if it had screen exits.
