IDK if anyone's done this yet but Cuphead and Megaman made me wonder if anyone's ever bothered to make a hack where instead of jumping on enemies you shoot at them and possibly used in a run-and-gun type game with boss-only levels similar to Cuphead.

JUMP's final boss is like that. Not sure if anybody made a full hack that way.

There's a level in Brutal Mario World where the player fights Ring Man. Instead of a normal powerup, you instead have a health bar. You shoot fireballs just like Fire Mario, but your fireballs move in straight lines instead of bouncing along the ground.
i think the fireball mod in Ludwig's Castle and Wily's Stage is just LevelASM (or UberASM as we call it now) tho

I have an idea. With the advent of flash carts, more and more people are starting to play these hacks on actual hardware. Sadly in almost all of the hacks I have played, save points are few and far between. Nothing is more disheartening than having to replay a bunch of levels because you get stuck on a tough one. It is nice to be able to take a break when you get frustrated and come back to the stage at a later time without needing to leave an SNES on for days at a time.

TLDR if you are making a hack that is at hard difficulty or above, consider adding auto save or the ability to bring up the save menu at will. Us console plebs will be eternally grateful being able to experience these games without having to grind at levels we already completed when we reach a level we are having trouble on.

I had a cool idea of a level where you switch between the foreground and the background via pipes

the BG would be consant, Mario would stay the same size, but you'd have no interaction with the FG at all until you exited it and vice versa.

It'd be really cool to have something like that, wish I could pull it off, seems rather simple to me.

And the level's name would obviously be Building Background or something like that

I absolutely am with you 100% on this. Forcing the player to re-do whole levels just because one part of one level stumps them is just plain bad design. Imagine having to re-do middle school because you are failing in your sophomore year of high school.

Something I am hoping to do for a rom hack that I am planning is multiple endings. I don't know how I will work that out, but if Toby Fox can find a way to do multiple endings for earthbound, I bet there are people who have found ways to do multiple endings for Mario World.

Another Idea I had was branching out the worlds. rather than have them in a select order, I thought of doing it like Mega Man and have the player decide the order to do the worlds in (the final world would be closed off until all other worlds are cleared of course). That one seems easier to figure out how to do...

Edit: Turns out somebody did find a way to do multiple endings. that means it is doable.
My idea/design: Loop de loops!

I actually half made this in my (hopefully) upcoming hack, the idea is to use pink triangles and the reverse gravity patch by MarioE To Loop de loop, or at least make a U-turn.

Yeah I don't think lx5 got a cease and desist but the trailer got manually flagged by Nintendo which is kind of a death sentence for projects.

Hmmm so ideas for hacks. Oh first post so yay!

SMW hacks:

1. So first of all a super monkey ball like hack where you go through short timed levels which could vary through obstacle based where you have to reach the goal in time, enemy based where you have to kill all enemies in time or unique levels such as catch a runaway mole where you have to touch a super fast runaway moles. Basically the idea of this hack is to make super quick things for people to play. You could even separate it like monkey ball games do so have beginner levels, advanced, expert and unlockable master.

2. A hack where you become super powerful. Basically a hack revolving around destroying enemies which are much more threatening such as even a goomba could pose a threat by running super fast and charging at you for example. To compensate for the enemies powerful nature make Mario super powerful as well such as instead of two hits make it a life system so he has way more hits than usual. Make powerups like fire flowers super powerful such as firing rapidly forward or you could have an upgrade system where it can become like a spreadshot and other items could be upgradable as well. Perhaps the upgrades come from collectables or a shop type system.

SM64 hack idea: Basically make the game around the stars being themselves tricky to get. What I mean by that is make certain stars flee from you when in proximity meaning you have to catch the star as it flys around the level or make use of the sneaking by making the star disappear if you run to fast towards it meaning you have to take a stealthy approach.

Yoshi island hack: So for this hack since baby Mario is generally disliked how about making him useful by making him the star of the game. So the star dash sections could be made into their own game and make the enemies could e threat by knockback making you fall into a pit and design the hack around the dash mechanics.

Finally if you are struggling with ideas or design around levels or enemies and such then feel free to message me as I'm practising level design at the minute through videos and sketches so please feel free to ask and I'll try to check back most days. Thought of a couple more things that I think would sound very ambitious:
-A custom block or sprite that functions like the recording mechanic from The Talos Principle (Mario would record himself doing things, then go back to end the recording, and then Mario's recording would repeat those actions while the Mario that's controlled by the player would work in tandem to solve puzzles). That could get complicated fairly quickly.
-A boss that uses savestates and loadstates, kinda like
Photoshop Flowey
from Undertale.

Hi everyone I'm the thetic24 I'm new here so I don't know all the rules of the website yet but I've always had a awesome hack name in mined for a smw rom hack you now how we all love rainbow road in Mario kart well how about a smw rom hack call the quest for rainbow road where Mario is on a journey to find the legendary rainbow road but he needs the seven rainbow gems to unlock it and it power but Bowser hears about the gems and he and his kids steel the and Bowser also finds out that the legendary rainbow road takes you to the beginning of time and space legendary power star. There is my idea for the hack I would like if someone would my dream hack a reality.
For quite a while I've had this idea of having the Badniks from Sonic 1 in SMW. Also maybe a sprite that turns Mario's Status into disco mario! So when Mario defeats this foe he gets his original state back. Also a 20 foot Shrek!
