General Star Wars thread

If you've spoke to me you probably know I like Star Wars a lot! I saw one thread about
Han Solo's death (spoilers even though literally everyone knows at this point lol)
but I decided to open a proper general thread where you can discuss any of the movies, books, Clone Wars, Rebels, etc.

I'll start by asking what your favourite of the films are if you've seen them.

Mine is Ep V: The Empire Strikes back for a bunch of reasons. One of them is the fact we see the Empire actually doing its job and crushing rebel scum. There's also the great settings, and scenes like the Hoth Battle and the asteroid field pursuit which still look pretty damn great for being made in 1980 lol

What about you ;)
My favorite Star Wars movie... I don't know honestly. I don't think I cn pick a favorite.
I'd say about 85% of what I know about Star Wars is now non-canon. thanks disney. The decision to get rid of the Expanded Universe does give a lot of freedom for making new movies, speaking of which I hope are better than Force Awakens. I've heard Rogue One is pretty good but I haven't seen it myself.

My favorite Star Wars game is either of the KOTOR games or Rogue Leader on the GameCube. But there are a fair amount of good SW games.

Unpopular opinion:
I think Phantom Menace wasn't as bad as people make it out to be.

My ranking would be:

New Hope > Empire > Return > Force Awakens >> Phantom > Revenge > Attack

With the given evidence and all things considered, Han did in fact shoot first.

Yes.
Yeah, it's pretty stupid logic.

If that was the case, why didn't he change this scene? He literally opens fire on Vader unprovoked. Vader is unarmed and as we see, he doesn't want to hurt anyone anyway. iirc Han didn't even know who Vader was until this point lol

so yeah, Lucas can be very silly
The Empire Strikes Back is one of the movies I wish I could have seen in the theater when it was brand new. I'd love to have been in a theater to witness people's reactions to the big revelation in the film.

A New Hope is my second favorite in the series, followed by Return of the Jedi. The Force Awakens is good, but it's way too derivative of A New Hope too rank with the original three movies. And Rogue One? Eh, it's alright, I don't regret buying a ticket at all, but it's not one I will probably watch again. To be perfectly honest, it felt like an extremely high budget fan film; as if Disney decided to hire hardcore SW fans to write a film, under the theory that fans would produce what fans really want.

I'm hopeful for The Last Jedi, but I'm worried it's just going to be another spiritual remake. Disney has a volatile product in their hands; no matter what direction they take, some faction of the fanbase will be pissed off, so maybe they think doing what's tried and true is the safest course.

Yeah, I don't think any of the prequels are bad, though Episodes I and II are rather mediocre. Episode III is actually pretty decent, though it's weighed down by the two other prequels. George Lucas said that he approached Spielberg, Zemeckis and Ron Howard about directing the prequels, so we can only wonder how much better they might have been.

Also, does anyone believe in the Darth Jar Jar theory? I don't totally buy it, though the evidence is compelling.

One of my biggest issues with the prequels is probably the forced characters. Jango Fett did not need to exist, and we didn't need to know Boba's backstory. They could have literally created any other character to use as the basis for the clones, since that fact was never brought up in the OT anyway.

Personally I think the only characters who had to be in those films from the OT were Obi Wan, Anakin, Yoda and Palpatine and maybe Beru and Owen, since we know from the OT that these characters were involved in those events. Bringing in characters who were never meant to have a part in those events originally, you basically create plot holes and inconsistencies. It's kind of silly how they made 3P0 and R2 meet Owen and Beru in Episode II (even going as far to have 3PO owned by them), yet in Episode IV, Owen don't even remember owning them. Instead he proceeds to ask 3PO a bunch of questions as if he doesn't know what a Protocol Droid is lmao. In Episode III they tried to explain this away by saying 3P0 had his memory wiped, but nobody wiped Owen's memory (unless he had a weird concussion we don't know about?) There's also the case of Chewie being best buddies with Yoda and fighting alongside him, yet he never stopped to tell Han that the force was real?

It might be a silly gripe, but to me it seemed like pandering. Not gonna say the new films don't do it either, like how the people from the cantina showed up in Rogue One, but at least there they aren't creating much in the way of inconsistencies.

I don't think the prequels are awful films; I think RotS is pretty good, and I'm indifferent to TPM. The only one I think I actively dislike is AotC lol

very much looking forward to the Ep 8 trailer whenever it may come
TPM's general shittiness is redeemed during the Darth Maul fight and Duel of the Fates.

But yeah the only prequel I actively dislike is Attack of the Clones. God what a terrible movie.

I do like Revenge of the Sith. I need to sit down and watch it again at some point, because all I've seen of it in a while are clips and memes. Some if it does look more cringy and less well written than I thought, but the Order 66 scene is still masterfully well done.
I've tried to watch attack of the clones like 12 times and I still don't remember what the fuck happened in it. TBH, I didn't really like any of the movies I've watched, though the 7th one wasn't bad I guess, if basically the same as the original trilogy lol. I mostly enjoyed expanded universe stuff like games, so, rip lmao.

The animated series is alright tho I guess.
Last Jedi trailer!

I think it looks pretty interestng. I hope it's not too much like Empire Strikes Back, the scene on the snowy planet with Walkers has me a bit concerned but other than that, I think it looks pretty interesting, especially Luke's dialogue which surprised me.

What do ya think?
Am I the only one who's complaining about Star Wars being a part of Disney? I mean the movies they've made ever since are fine, but Star Wars doesn't have that Disney charm at all.

People thought Disney was going to tone down the violence but Force Awakens was pretty brutal. During the opening scene alone you see an unarmed man get struck down and a whole village get slaughtered. I'm going to bet there will be at least 2 dismemberments in Last Jedi.

I literally just watched Rogue One. The first half sucked balls because it was buildup, the rest was action that satisfied my expectations.

The Darth Vader scenes were perfect. Just. Just. mmmMMMMMmmmMMm

Yup. That movie had everything but characters. It's a good movie but I don't see how people can prefer it over TFA. TFA is unoriginal for sure but at least it had interesting new characters.

Yeah the recent movies haven't done much that's special or new, but damn the action is lovable.
reviving this thread because a new last jedi trailer premiered last night

looking forward to this 👌
empire strikes back is the best

rogue one is the worst. Yes, worse than the prequels. Enormous amount of pointless spectacle filled action scenes, incredibly unlikable characters, predictable plot, nonsensical retcons, undermining of its own central themes of sacrifice, and feeling like a particularly unpleasant fanfiction (complete with OCs that all die by the end to make room for canon characters).
I don't know, the first half sucked but the second half that was pretty much just action was the only part I was really interested in lmao

at least
darth vader's scene
was badass

also why is it called the last jedi when luke is clearly alive
