Shitposts?

Ok ok so, there's alot when it comes to shitposts that I often notice. Like, they say shit posts aren't allowed, but I almost feel like I've seen more successful shitposts on the site than I've seen trashed ones... It just might be me but they seem common. So when they say shitposts are not allowed, do they really mean shit-shitposts are not allowed? Cause that makes more sense... :3

And if so, what separates the shit-shitposts, from the shitposts? Is it how funny it is? Or the amount of content? Or is it just who's posting it, or the context? Or maybe it's how long it is? Or is it the topic?

-At what point is that threshold crossed where we begin to determine a shitpost as not of site standards?

A shit post is notably different from a shitpost. A shit post is a post void of any value whatsoever, including comedic value. A shitpost takes somewhat more effort, usually meming or typing up something pointless but funny.

As far as I've gathered both are frowned upon (at least by the mods), but shitposts are frowned upon somewhat less than shit posts are.
Officially a Mega Man addict.
Major thanks to Giga and Erik557 for the layout.

Are they not the same thing? ._. Maybe i should've considered the spelling when typing my post...

A thousand years ago Lightvayne allowed shitposting and said he doesn't need to deal with children or something along those lines and basically just dropped the mic on shitpost moderation.

After people like me started spamming the absolute shit out of the website with large-sized gifs, the Bee Movie script, and the like, the mods had enough of our shit and raised the standards a bit higher again.

Shitposting is now only allowed if it isn't mindless spam, and, depending on who's moderating, if it isn't Freedom Planet memes.
It really depends on the level of irony (aka how much of a dick you are), if you're doing it for shits and giggles then it won't really harm anyone (copypasta, images such as this or this, you get the idea.) But if you shitpost in something serious as in, really trying to trigger, there is absolutely no comedic value regardless of how funny/satire the shitpost itself is (someone dying, IRL suicide, animal abuse, etc.)

So yeah, each shitpost varies and is unique in their own strange, stupid way.

lol u sure we're browsing the same forum

As far as I can tell, the lenience of the shitpost / shit posting rule depends on whether or not people like you. If they do, you can post whatever the hell you want. If they dont like you, you can post whatever the hell you want but people will complain about your shitty posting tactics. If people hate you, they will attempt to get you banned for your posts nature.

At least that's how I've always seen it, from an outside perspective tho tbf. e: i guess it's not really an outside perspective. I've made a lot of shitty mindless posts and I've never had anybody bring up my cruddy posting nature to me (except when, ironically, Alcaro gave me an official warning, ruining my perfect and clean slate, because I shitposted in a shitpost thread smh) (also the time Vitor trashed my ironic VLDCX thread lol)
Shitposting: Art or vandalism?
The concept of shitposts as a form of art is a controversial topic within the entertainment industry. Though shitposts have been afforded legal protection as creative works by the Supreme Court of the United States, the philosophical proposition that shitposts are works of art remains in question, even when considering the contribution of expressive elements such as graphics, storytelling and music. Even art shitposts, shitposts purposely designed to be a work of creative expression, have been challenged as works of art by some critics.

My pa - Lord rest his soul - was one of the finest shitposters in the whole dern country. I been shitpostin' since the day I was born. It was a hard life. While the other youngins got to play with toys, I was given a keyboard and trained to type non sequiturs which my pa would then tweet. But it was worth it in the end. My pa taught me everything I needed to know about shitpostin': The newest memes and copypastas, the secrets of thread derailment and alt accounts. Now like I was sayin', it was a hard life. But it was MY life goddernit!

Then one day my pa placed his hand on my shoulder - something he could hardly do anymore due to carpal tunnel syndrome - and said to me: "Son, yer old enough to shitpost on yer own now. Ain't nothin' I can teach ya anymore". Then he gave me a brand new mechanical keyboard and proceeded to set up various forum and social media accounts for me.

The next mornin' I found my pa lyin' in bed and I knew he wasn't gonna wake up no more. He had died in peace knowin' his son would continue his legacy share if u agree

My pa's name? Harambe.

As far as I've seen, they're only allowed if either it's April Fool's Day, or if the staff decides that it's an actually good shitpost and not something someone copied a thousand times already. (Also, just because a shitpost is in the trash doesn't mean it's unsuccessful.)

*everything stops*
Yeah, that's me. You're probably wondering how I got into this situation...

Here's how to shitpost.

How to Shitpost:
Be witty and funny. Make sure to focus on non-seriousness. Overall, just have fun.

How not to Shitpost:

You'd probably have a better time with "jokes" like these on GiIvaSunner's comment section on YouTube or whatever. GD doesn't need any more shit threads.

Disclaimer: Posting bad shitposts ironically as a way of making fun of said bad shitposts does count as a good shitpost, just don't always rely on it (like what happened to Freedom Planet memes). For more info: Dada, Surreal Humour.

this tutorial is completely ironic btw

I think Hobz nails it. Naturally if you're all-around nice and cool and talk and chill around with people and you become well liked for that they won't mind if you joke around every now and then. But if you show to not be able to do anything but shitpost you're not going to be well-liked. Well, I won't like you very much, at least...

Moderation is different from being liked cause we can't discriminate people when they shitpost, so you have to be either overly spammy or outright offensive to get warned or banned. I wish people took what the community thinks of them a bit more into account, though.

I don't think it has to do with the memes you use, but some memes have become very unfunny to me only because I don't find the people who use them to be funny.

When someone makes an attempt to be funny but doesn't contribute to the subject at hand. Amount of content doesn't matter, just one word can answer a question (depends).

When someone is just being annoying and not responding to the question, or making fun of someone.

THE PROBLEM WITH THIS SITE ISN'T CRINGY POSTS IN THE... this joke is getting old.

Honestly as long as you don't shitpost all the time (or if you do shitpost all the time, at least contribute to the site by submitting stuff) and it isn't just total spam then it really isn't a problem.
let's see if the mods will discriminate if we bring back freedom planet memes
shitposting is a work of art, while shit posting isnt, simple as that

many havent fully mastered the technique, tho, but I'm getting there

slowly

There's a time and a place for shitposting in my opinion. If you just come around to shitpost and never contribute, then you're basically in serious need of improving your posting quality. I'm kind of still in the hopes of such people taking what others complained about them into consideration someday.

It's not that you can't shitpost, you should just know when it's alright and when it's not. Even people who contribute to the community can create shitposts sometimes (funny posts or not).

Of course spamming or being outright offensive isn't allowed, since that's basically crossing the line.
It just has to be light-hearted, original and on-topic (eg. a reply to something) to get a free pass.
One good example of this is Torchkas' entirely empty post a few pages back in the B&G. I was really close to warning her for that, until it was pointed out that it was actually a response to the post above, which mentioned "400 pixels of empty space". It's funny! I was so ashamed of my meme radar not working.

An example of shitposts that aren't on-topic ever are lion's B&G new meme shitposts. Those are terrible.
