Have you ever thought something about games when you were younger that you now know to be completely and utterly false in the falsest way possible?

For example, when I was younger, I used to think the E.S.R.B. rating of a game directly indicated its difficulty. I've always thought that, for example, a T rated game was much harder than an E rated game. I played and beat a whole bunch of E and E 10+ games when I was younger, so imagine my happiness when I beat Metroid Prime. Metroid Prime was the first T rated game I beat, so I assumed it was the hardest game I've played.

(I didn't objectively compare games back then. I was very young, like 7-12, and didn't really know how. I just assumed the E.S.R.B. rating indicated the game's difficulty.)

Probably all of the Touhou PC-98 games could confuse me. (Is it non-canon or something? Tell me, what was it?!)

I think the consensus is that they're non-canon until proven otherwise. Sorta alternate universe.
thinking brawl was passable LOL
Thinking there were even more colors of Yoshi in Super Mario Advance 2. Obviously.

For me, it involves the Donkey Kong Country trilogy for the Super Nintendo. When I was a kid, I played them mostly for the game play and because I remember skipping out on some of the text, I didn't know everything about them. I recently played through them again with my newest console, RetroN 2, and when I decided to read the text carefully, I realized that what the characters had to say were actually quite vital to not only the story, but the game play itself. Almost made me feel like a moron for not paying attention all those years ago.

I did that with Simpsons Hit & Run except I haven't played through it all again since. If I ever do, I will pay more attention to the story and the jokes.
-Believing that "beating a game" and "getting 100% completion" were one in the same
-Assuming 4-4 in SMB was impossible because it kept looping
-Assuming level 9 in the calculator game Block Dude was impossible
-Probably the most outlandish of all of these: when I was real little, I used to think it was impossible to die in Super Mario 64. I don't remember what made me think that.

How am I so creative? I think taking walks might have something to do with it.
Every single level I will ever make in SMM2 will be easier than Ultra Necrozma.

They're canon actually, they just take place in the past.

In Yuka's story in PoFV, she does remember Reimu (and vice versa).

Quote
Yuka: Flowers and ghosts and..., hmm. Speaking of which, this happened once before didn't it? How many decades ago was it? It's been so ordinary since then, I can't remember.
(...)
Yuka: Do you think that ignoring the events back then, would bring everything back to normal?
Reimu: Everything went back to normal when I defeated you back then!

And Alice remembers Reimu in PCB (she forgot about her tho lol)

Quote
Alice: Long time no see.
Reimu: We've only just met.
Alice: No, that's not what I meant.
Reimu: Am I supposed to remember?*
Alice: Don't you remember me? Well, either way is fine though.

* - actually a joke on Gauntlet Dark Legacy's japanese translation (the Growth power up was called "しばらく巨人" or "Giant For a While") in the original dialogue, the pun doesnt work in english

i am a touhou lore expert there are many things i could tell you about touhou

thinking smash 4's online mode would be good
In order from least strange to strangest:

The Pokemon games had the Nuzlocke challenge built in. (I reset my Pokemon saves a lot when I was four when I was losing a fight because of this reason.)

A TAS was a normal speedrun but you had an emulator's turbo function on the whole time and that made it faster.

The jungle level in The Subspace Emissary was impossible if you didn't choose specific characters on the selection screen.

The three main console producers had a monopoly on games of certain ESRB ratings; Nintendo had 3+, E, and E10; Sony had T; and Microsoft had M.

All the glitches in 1st generation Pokemon were easter eggs that got removed sometime in development and therefore got unstable.

Not kidding: I actually used to think that the MISSIGNO. glitch was an actual cheat built legitimately into the game. I never even questioned the fact that it completely fucks up your hall of fame or can even fuck up your whole save file.

Similar to this, I used to think 3-4 of Super Mario Bros: The Lost Levels was unbeatable. I knew about the right/wrong level paths by then, but I never managed to find the first right path and I assumed the level was impossible. Additionally, since World 3 had a backward Warp Zone to World 1, I assumed you were meant to warp back to World 1 and find the warp to World 4 in 1-2 in order to advance.

I remember thinking that in one "Kill all the enemies to spawn a rocket barrel" section, that the game for some reason didn't count Koopa Troopas as killed unless you killed them with Fox.

Everyone thought Minamitsu from Touhou 12: Undefined Fantastic Object was named Murasa. Murasa is her surname.

I used to think "Deus Ex" was pronounced "Deuce Ex."

a
Not at all strange, given how it's a random latin word and that's the most obvious pronunciation. You'll hear most people pronounce it that way when talking about "deus ex machina".
