I don't know if this was answered already, but is it okay to hide things behind 1-up checkpoint objects so that they'll only show up later after the checkpoint 1-up has been triggered?

That's absolutely unintended behavior. (No)

The VLDC has more interesting levels, so I'd say you're the one who's got it easy. Plus, the deadlines keep getting pushed back thanks to the leader & some of the judges quitting half way through the process.

Look at that smile
Look at that smile of innocence
Both contests will have crap entries, but I'm sure the good levels make it worth becoming a judge. You've judged 2 VLDCs now so it must be true.

From your streams, you've enjoyed while a few. You've even called some of the levels "fantastic". I completely understand that it's time consuming due to the sheer amount of entries, but that's just how contests like these are. If you take breaks in-between, it probably makes the experience more enjoyable since you'll feel refreshed after a break.
its getting really hard to justify not having enough time to complete a new entry
7 MORE HOURS??? even vldc had the decency to end at noon. What gives?
I'm not sure what place I'm gonna get (Maybe 15th - 25th), but if I get first or even top three, I'm gonna go insane.
Edit: I also forgot to say how shocked I am to see that there are 77 entries. I was expecting to see around 60 - 70, but I already thought 70 was too many. I guess I was wrong. Let's just hope things go smooth for the judges.
Level Design: 30/30 Was your entry fun? Did it present a correct difficulty curve, fun gimmick usage and intricate usage of sprites?
Creativity: 20/20 Did your entry do more than just jumping over Koopas? Did it go the extra mile by including a gimmick that could be considered unique?
so im hoping yalls confidence takes this into consideration. this isnt gonna be a "make a boring level contest" - just cos there are heavy limitations doesn't mean boring romps with little thought put into enemy placement, level structure, or memorability will have a better chance than they would in a normal vldc. the competition should be just as strong as other level design contests we hold, because it's exactly based around that: level design.
also 5 hours left so if you need to fix your shit or update shit do it now. we will not be having a week long span of being able to update your levels like vitor allowed in vldc lol.

Okay, this is probably an unnessecary/dumb question, but I want to make sure: We can place porcu-puffers in the air, since they are water sprites, right?
I wasn't trying to sound too arrogant or anything, but I believe I put at least some effort into my entry (It's definitely more than a "boring romp"), and I think I met most of those criteria, but on the other hand, I've seen some really creative levels that could probably top mine, so I'm not really sure where I would place, although I can't really tell you much about my entry until you judge it, idol.

imo the standard blippers are allowed because they still follow their natural behavior: swim forward horizontally. Porcu-puffers, on the other hand, slowly descend in a quite unnatural fashion. Maybe if you use it wisely enough the judges won't take off points, but better not to risk it.
