Hey there everyone,
it is about time. Time to reveal the first (finished) hack I´ve ever made. It´s called IUDICIUM TRIBUNALIS. I don´t know if you´re interested in its background story, but I´ll tell you either way:
History:
IUDICIUM TRIBUNALIS is a hard kaizo hack made between October 2015 - February 2016. Now you may ask why it took time until June 2017 to release it? There are 2 simple reasons:
- First of all this hack´s primary intention was to torture the player as much as possible. This includes that there were some pretty unfair parts. Knowing SMWC´s hack-acception rules, I knew that, as long as these unfair parts aren´t left out / improved my hack would be rejected for this reason alone.
- Second this hack was breakable. Many breaks were just minor ones, which didn´t have much influence and didn´t allow huge skips. On the other hand there was 1 break (in a gigantic puzzle level) that let you skip about 50% of the level and knowing that kaizo-hacks should be as unbreakable as possible this would be the 2nd reason for a rejection.
I still cannot explain why that a long time had to pass until I found motivation to re-design my hack. Nonetheless it was June 2017 when I´ve decided to finish my old creation. So I´ve scanned each level for possible breaks and unfair parts and tried to fix everything. Nonehtheless you´ll still find several parts that are a bit unfair and maybe some parts are still breakable, but compared to my 2016-version I definitely made some huge improvements.
What can you expect:
9 stages of hard kaizo difficulty. I´d say the stages are quite long (especially the puzzly levels), so this hack definitely pushes your patience to its limits. I also tried to create a difficulty curve and even if I wasn´t entirely successful with this, you can at least say the difficulty increases per world. So 9 levels were split up to 3 worlds.
I also should add, that this hack has 2 "major" gimmicks.
- This hack is bilingual. This means the level names are latin, but the message boxes are written in english. Yeah I was very inconsistent back then, but I think the latin names are cool and I don´t have the motivation to translate the message boxes to latin (also nobody would understand what I´m saying then ) so personally I´m fine, that the hack is bilingual and I have no intention to change it right now.
- Every stage has a "last resort" room. This means that at the end of every stage there´s a room with a (more or less) close time limit. Well, the time limit is probably the only thing that makes the rooms difficult, but I don´t want to remove my "ULTIMA RATIO"-rooms (as they are called), because they sometimes have very neat kaizo-traps in my opinion
Screenshots and videos:
This was quite a wall of text I admit, but the most important things should be said now. If you still have any questions don´t hesitate to ask.
However, now it is about time to show you some screenshot so you get visually impressed (or not ). So enjoy some screenshots of the title-screen, the OW and the first level (brief remark: this isn´t the post´s end. Scroll down for a video):
Title screen + world 1 OW:
A level that includes 4 Yoshis and green berries. The time limit isn´t too close, though:
Your first kaizo goal trap. Timing is everything:
I´m also going to try to upload 1 Level per day on my Youtube channel(be sure to subscribe). I guess the upload time is going to be about 3am UTC (no promises though). Today I started with a video of the title-screen and the Yoshi-House. Tomorrow I´m going to upload Level 1 then. But without any futher ado:
Here´s video 1
I hope you enjoy. Feel free to tell me your opinion (probably more about the scrennshots, since this video doesn´t show that much >w<)[/b
