Due to real-life circumstances I haven't been able to do a whole lot lately. Or maybe I've lost my touch. I don't really care either way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
As the first in my SMB2-themed sprite-improvement project, I made the FryGuy boss which you can download here.
It behaves more or less the same as the original boss, with the added bonus that its movement is dependent on the camera rather than its origin position. This means you can have either a static screen for him to attack you in, or you can autoscroll the level and he'll try to keep up.
If you set the extra bit, it moves significantly faster, shoots more projectiles, and takes more hits before the boss splits apart. When the boss actually DOES split apart, it'll split into 5 parts instead of 4, and they also leave Hopping Flame trails behind them. When they are killed, they explode into a triangular pattern of 3 fireballs, too. I made a demonstration of this "Hard Mode" version.
