For now, that won't be necessary. On Discord, I learned about, and was given, a tweaked version of PIXI 1.1 that works around the asar softlock that was causing all my problems. I had to port my ROM a third or fourth time, but now I have stuff working again, aside from the Hopping Snifit not actually shooting his projectile.

Now that PIXI is working again, I decided to give Super Luigi Land a new Bonus Game.

You could win one of four prizes!

Pick a shell!

Kudos to Erik557 for coding the sprite used in this new Bonus Game.

I was tempted to cancel this again after the second boss that I put in was causing the game to crash. For the longest time, I thought it was the boss, which was a n00b sprite-based boss, was causing the crashing. After trying to debug it with help from imamelia, the Martian Geek decided to just code me an alternate version of the boss based on the behaviors I had set in the n00b sprite. With this new version, the game was STILL crashing. I eventually came to the conclusion that the boss wasn't the problem, but the shooter sprite I had set up in the room to spawn Koopa shells to hit him with was, despite another shooter based on the same code working just fine in Flora Fields 1. I made a comment about the crashing on the shooter's submission page.

Anyway, I managed to get it working and was able to finish up Coffee Castle.

The castle opens up with Donut Lift bridges over water and Dry Bones.

Honen will jump up out of the water to try to munch on some tasty plumber flesh.

The second half of the castle is underwater, as indicated by the bluer tone. Here, Luigi must avoid more Dry Bones, as well as Torpedo Teds.

This looks kinda tricky.

Here's the boss that was causing so much trouble with his room crashing the game. I decided to omit the shooter and just place some Throw Blocks around the arena. If you happen to waste all 10, you can enter the pipe to reset the battle.

If it turned out that there would be no way to work around the game crashes, this would've been the boss battle instead. In here, the water rises and falls while Bowser spits fire and throws hammers. The player would have to wait for the water to rise high enough that he/she could swim up to where the P-Switch is, and press it. This part would actually be easier for Small Luigi.

Question: Does the shooter in Flora Fields 1 spawn sprites other than Koopa shells?

Beceause I believe, I know the actual reason: You used sprite number DA-DF to spawn a Koopa shell. Except sprites DA-DF don't really exists (kind of, they are valid in the loading routine but don't exists as actual sprites). Instead, you need to know, what Koopa shells actually are in SMW: Koopas and their Shells are, in fact, the same sprite but in different states. All what "sprites" DA-DF do is to just spawn Koopas as a shell but not as the enemies.

In order to spawn a Koopa shell, you not only need to set the spawned sprite as a Koopa shell but also need to set their state as such. Just search for "14C8" and change the "LDA #$01" preceeding it to "LDA #$09" which spawns the Koopa as a shell.

Try this again and see if the game doesn't crash anymore.

--------------------
Okay, my layout looks ugly.
@MarioFanGamer That's what I WAS doing when the game crashed. It wouldn't crash right away either, like it would if I did have the sprite spawn sprites DA-DF. The crash happens after at least 3 or 4 sprites have spawned, and it doesn't matter what sprite it is or what state it's set to spawn in. As long as the shooter is in an enclosed room, like your typical boss arena, the game will eventually crash. If the level is several screens long, like Flora Fields 2, where a different iteration of the shooter is used, the game doesn't crash. Maybe it has trouble handling situations where there are too many sprites on the screen, and instead of just causing lag, it completely crashes the game. I don't know. I'm not much of an ASM person.

This hack is very neat, it has the best pallete selection :)

Thanks, MS. It's not even finished yet, but here's a demo.

The hack got back! #smw{^_^}

Also, good job for making the Coffee Castle and the Demo.

Can't wait for the release, though!

Thanks. I'm glad it was moderated and approved so quickly.

Anyway, I've made quite a bit of progress on the Overworld.

I've also inserted all the OW music and applied the patch that allows multiple songs to play on the main map.

LOL Thanks, Lion.

Ready for World 3? Thought so.

WALNUT WOODS 1

Seems like a good place to introduce Volcano Lotuses.

Aww, CHUCK!

Good thing I have a shell.

Triple Trouble!

This looks familiar.

Yep, it's my OLDC entry...with UberASM and custom music!

These levels seem to be quite pleasant. A good level-design and fair difficulty. Can´t think of anything else i could ask for #tb{:]}

Thanks, Sariel.

Well, after much procrastination, I finally got back to work on this.

WALNUT WOODS 3

Golden berries? I wonder what those do.

Get too close, and they might fall on your head!

Good thing I took out one of those Hammer Bros.

You may want to consider getting new graphics for the hammer bros. because those ones look awful. Try the Super mario maker ones.

You're right. Those aren't my best sprite graphics to use the SMW style. Moltz's SMW-style Hammer Bros. are much better. That's what I switched to.

Anyway, I just finished up another level.

WALNUT SECRET

A bit of NSMB influence with the purple lava/poison water. Purple Blarggs live in it.

Buzzy Beetles above ground? Well, SMB1 did it.

I better get this guy out of the way before going for that A-Coin.

This level also introduces Puntin' Chucks, and they're the toughest enemies to deal with because of their footballs.

The Layer 2 level kinda reminds me of Super Mario Odyssey, though.

Also, did you use the newer sources like this?

I never played or watched gameplay of Super Mario Odyssey yet. If anything, to me, it's more reminiscent of forest/jungle levels in the New Super Mario Bros. games. If you're talking about the Layer 3 background, that's not ripped from any game. It was drawn by Dr. Tapeworm.

WALNUT GHOST HOUSE

Not only is this place haunted, but it's also overgrown with these thorny vines that can block your progress. How do you get rid of them?

Silver P-Switches will cause them to become withered, thorn-free, and brittle, so Luigi can just smash through them. The switch also causes brittle, withered bridge vines to become green and strong again.

Bet you'd just LOVE to just grab that Silver P right there, huh? That would be too easy. You'd need a Yoshi, and he's not allowed in here. You'll have to take the long way around.

At the top level of the house, foliage has obscured the view of some platforms. Coin Guides are always accurate though.
