It's been 5 long years... but that's right, staff applications are returning! We are looking to hire new ASM, Music, and Graphics mods.

Keep in mind, while being staff may have a lot of allure, it's rather hard work. We're only looking for the most mature and dedicated individuals. You must have good communication & judgement skills, and you must be able to work well in a team.

Application Information

In your application, please specify what position you are applying for at the top, and then talk about your history on the site and your relation to the section you specialize in. Explain why you feel qualified for the position, and how experienced you are with the section you're applying for. Important information to include is your age, what languages you speak, how active you are on SMW Central, and how much time you would have to attend to your sections. Failure to address these points will result in your application not being considered. We encourage you to elaborate on your skills!

All applications should be PM'd to me, idol. They will be shared with the rest of staff once the deadline has been reached, and then decisions will be made. You have one week to apply.

Application Deadline:

Staff Changes

Teyla has been promoted to full time staff! Super staffed Ty Ty. He will continue to take care of our Twitter account.

Lui37 has stepped down from the staff team, due to disinterest in music moderation. Nameless is the new Music Team Leader, having shown exceptional moderation skills and constantly keeping tabs on making sure other music mods were doing their job.

HuFlungDu and Sonikku have both stepped down from full time staff, but they will remain as section helpers. This is due to their time constraints permitting them from being full time moderations, but they're both still interested in helping out and are able to do their jobs exceptionally.

That should be everything! If you have any questions, you may post them here.
Just wanted to say that, because I've been a music mod, being a mod ISN'T all fun and games. There's actually quite a lot of work to do.

You should realize that when you apply for this that you're essentially working for the community in order to keep things afloat. You need to be aware of the kind of responsibility it takes to be able to take YOUR free time and do things that benefit OTHERS.

Try to judge yourself on how good you are with clearing a list, how good you are at doing something that's not always fun, how good you are at telling people that their things aren't great.

If you can't do any of these things. Don't apply for this. You'll regret it, you'll leave people disappointed, you'll have taken a place that someone else could have.
Don't do what I did.

That's all.
The post above me kind of makes me think as of why I wanted to be a moderator in the first place, lol. I mean, i'd call myself alright at judging hacks but not at anything else that has been mentioned. It's not like we need new hack moderators anyway, the ones right now are doing well enough.
God, I weren't on the site while there were Staff Applications! I feel like I'm improving at judging SMW hacks and my position as a SMW hack moderator is my dream. As for now, I'm not experienced at judging graphics yet, but I know what looks either good or bad. This means I'm alright at it, but not good enough to apply as a graphics moderator. I had made a grassland tileset for this summer's C3 and updated it after a while, but it's not what I can call incredible.

As for the staff changes, there's already a thread run by FPzero on the top of the Announcements forum.
I have a Discord server as well!

Basically, I believe in peace and bashing two bricks together.
What Torchkas said is spot on and pretty much also applies to other sections. Moderation isn't just fun, it's mainly work that you're doing voluntarily, which means that you'll have to use some of your own free time for it. If you have very little free time to begin with, like me, you can be glad if you manage to do a couple of moderations per month (depending on the section, some sections arguably require more time per moderation).
Feel free to visit my website/blog - it's updated rarely, but it looks pretty cool!
Echoing the above users. Moderation is very time-consuming and takes a lot of effort. There are some perks in being staff, like the name color, but it's not worth trying to become staff just for things like that. Don't apply unless you seriously want to dedicate your time to helping the site grow and improve.

Also there's the staff forum, but trust me it's not like some secret fun place. It's boooooooooring.

Actually it has turned into a secret fun place since you left #ab{;)}

But yeah, don't expect it to be just about earning a custom color and custom title. We expect you to work hard behind the scenes.
How much do I get paid
^^Nothing, I get shitposts directed at me on twitter sometimes though.
Good luck to all applicants (ノ・ω・)ノ゙

Please heed the current mods' warnings before giving it a shot tho ( ;´Д`)

Honestly, I'd want that, but then I realize how much of a responsibility this is gonna be, and how I'm still not truly skilled at quite a few stuff in AMK and to make a good MML with it, so I may end up not helping as much as I'd expect. The only thing I can REALLY help is with a few general musical tips, but even then I'm horrible at those so nah, sorry. It's too soon for me to be staff anyway

Just like several other people, I think I could handle well enough moderation duties, independent of the section. But yeah, I don't think I specialize myself enough in anything other than quality control of hacks. Even though I'm helping with sprite remoderation, I feel that my ASM skills aren't in level for me to fit in the ASM moderation group. Plus, I'm full of issues on my own and lack internet access from home, so I wouldn't be that helpful at all.

For those applying, good luck, and for the chosen ones, may you do well.

For the record, I don't think you need to be an ASM expert or anything to be a good mod. You should have some knowledge, of course, but you don't have to be the next p4, Alcaro, etc. to be good enough to moderate. Applies to other sections too.

Basically this. I'd like to apply, but I'm so unsure about myself, even thought my friends say I'll do it well, I don't know, I still thing I'm not good enough to be staff member. Yeah, I defenitely need self-confidence, don't I?

i want to apply as god

thank

e: too bad i suck at music, asm, gfx and not just insulting people for bad work haha. Best of luck to those who want to apply though.

Is this week of staff applications a one-time thing or will there be another one if SMWC needs a lot of staff members?

Good luck to everyone who applies!
It's not the first time staff applications have ever happened, no. But there's generally a lot of time (years) inbetween because we try to fill up spots with reliable people as the need becomes apparent, but right now we could go for help in a lot of different areas all at once, and we aren't aware of enough people who would actually be interested in helping to fill them, simply put.

So like, you don't NEED to be the absolute #1 best person in the area you're thinking about applying for, you just need to be competent and be able to judge if things are up to the site's standards, as well as of course actually having some amount of fun looking through submissions.
Quite a few people look at most submissions on their own time anyway, and a lot of those people can likely tell just fine what would and what wouldn't be accepted, we just need to know which of those people are actually up for it lol

Also, I don't -quite- agree with what people have been saying regarding "disappointing" people or moderation being stressful.
We have had people on staff that don't have the most time in the world to moderate stuff, but simply because they still do it here and there to the best of their abilities and we know they're trustworthy we let them work at their pace.
It's fine to work less if you get busy, or to flat out take a break (like for exam period, personal issues or a heavy workload), you're not going to get nuked off the team just because you didn't do enough any given month.

Now I'm not saying "apply so you can do nothing IMMEDIATELY", I'm just trying to take some of the heaviness some people were putting on the role in here off of it again by explaining that you don't have to become a moderation machine the second you join. We're fully aware that it's entirely a voluntary thing.
Your layout has been removed.
You just gotta know what you're facing. You're offering part of your free time for dedication to this website. If you see yourself enjoying that a ton, you're probably the right person (considering you have the abilities required).
I was taken to staff in a period where I wasn't as passionate about SMWC anymore (to a point I was even conflicted about accepting the offer). Despite the fact moderation can be fun, it is also awful when you don't feel like doing it. And that happened very often to me.

If you dig the site a lot and really feel like helping, I think you should apply. If you think it can be a chore but the staff privileges are calling you in, you should not think twice and not apply.
Is there perhaps a discrete formatting we must use? I am trying to figure out how to organize/structure the sentences, but I am kind of in a pickle right now.
There isn't really a "specific" format. Just state what position you want to specialize in and fill in the other questions in the OP.
