Tip: If you make a change to your ROM that you regret, just go to File > Restore > Restore ROM to Previous State in the menu. From there, you can select a restore point and revert your ROM to a previous state.

Asar refusing to patch my rom

hey!

read my post down below!

So, I've been trying to patch my rom to get it to disable lives. Here's the code:
Code
header
lorom

org $00D0D8
db $EA,$EA,$EA

When applying it, it just says: "Errors were detected when assembling the patch. Assembling aborted. Your rom has not been modified."
Any help is appreciated!

Well, what is the error message? It should give you more details.
You might want to remove the header/lorom stuff since asar assumes the header based on extension and lorom by default

Also, how are you patching it? It worked fine when I inserted it just now.

That is the error message. "Errors were detected when assembling the patch. Assembling aborted. Your rom has not been modified."

The way I created the asm file is I create a new text document, insert the code, then do Save As, and when asking to save as a text file or all files, I select "all files" and then named it "no_lives.asm". Then I tried to patch it asar, inserting the name as no_lives.asm and then my rom name.

Well, I can't think of any error message that wouldn't give more detail. That part is in literally every error message from asar.

Anyway, since it worked for me, did you try removing header/lorom from the top?
Also, what version of asar did you use?
Do you get the same error patching to a clean, unmodified rom?

I used asar version 1.50, the latest one. Also, I noticed that it actually also said "no_lives.asm: error: could not open file". I also tried removing the header/lorom and nothing happened.

Yes, I get the same error.

Could not open file usually means the file doesn't exist. Are you sure you actually changed the extension of the file to .asm?

Windows hides known extensions by default so unless you changed that your file might still be a .txt file. Does the "type" field say "ASM File" or "Text Document"? If it says text document then it's still a .txt in which case you can just apply "no_lives.asm.txt" since asar doesn't actually care about the patch's extension as far as I know.

Really? I know my file is definitely .asm, but I will try doing the patch just with the .txt file.

Try dragging and dropping your asm file from Explorer to the asar window.
