Cool! Welcome aboard!

I've had the idea of using a water gimmick similar to the one used in this level, with exception of the Fishin' Boo. So, the player would hit the switches scattered around the room to control the water level and, in conjunction with slightly more complex obstacle setups and creative usage of floating platforms, make up for some challenge while not being too difficult or unfair. But... my ghost house level used an specific uberASM code to handle layer 2 water, and I don't know if you're familiar with that in order to apply the same effect to level 10... so you don't need to strictly follow my ideas. But if you do want to do it, and need assistance, feel free to PM me.

Regarding tileset, the regular castle tileset will do, along with SMW's level 101 BG, and a blue back area color. You can leave an empty boss room at the end as a placeholder for a custom boss. The base ROM has a debug feature so Start+Select will beat the level.

Managed to build the first half of my level. Still need to iron out a few setups, but level design-wise this section is complete, provided I take any critique into account. Aesthetics are incomplete tho (gotta convert the pillar background to layer 3 for starters).

Went for the regular Layer 2 scrolling water approach along with the floating platforms. Custom sprites are the stationary mines.
Looks well designed and fun to play. The palette looks a bit dark but it's alright because the translucent water makes stuff a lot brighter. The diamonds placement is great - they both provide a good challenge and are pretty creative. Keep it up!

I did... a lot of stuff for this project lately. I had "the burst" of inspiration to redo/revamp an old song, to compose an entirely new one, and also to design a new level inspired by an old one, using an experimental resource that turned out a bit interesting: the line-guided rope with a climbing Koopa attached to it. Here goes stuff!

My next job will be designing Level 10C - W5-Fortress - called 'Divine Acropolis'. The old one was made by levelengine, and didn't have a very consistent set of enemies/gimmicks. I may go for using turn block bridges, flying question blocks and platforms to make it more athletic, while retaining the "calm" of my newest composition lol. I also want the level design to remind a bit of dungeons I designed for MKUCS. Dunno how yet, so wish me good luck with this.

W1 Castle (WIP)
Hm, I gotta be honest here... it needs a bit of work. I'm mainly looking at the springboard section, as it *requires* item babysitting - which is prone to errors - in order to progress (the player gotta be pretty dumb to lose it, but yeah, best to avoid these situations), and the lone Goomba and Bony Beetle look very out of place - they're used only once in the level, and could be replaced with regular Koopas. The wooden spikes could have been used more often, too, as right now there are only two of them in the first screens. You could also extend the level a bit as currently it's pretty short. Perhaps make a net climbing section with a mix of wooden spikes or something.

Other than these details, the level is acceptable. Hope you can improve it and finish it.

Base ROM update!

Various new levels that were completed were inserted, new music, as well as new optimizations, bugfixes, minor edits and whatnot. On a sidenote, I've also finished Divine Acropolis, which is in the base ROM as well. No boss was planned for it yet, though. Ideas are welcome.

Castle Update

Thanks for the levels, guys! With just some minor adjustments I'm going to make, they're pretty decent. I really appreciate your help!

About dividing the main map, I did two things. One was an hex edit, to entirely disable vertical scrolling (layer 1/layer 2 position updating) on the overworld. The other was coding a new routine in UberASM for the main map to update the layers' Y position manually with a fixed value, according to the OW character's Y-pos. The same player position check is used to determine the song that will be played in each "submap".

On another note, I've silently worked on a new W6 level, based off of a burning bridges theme from an old one made for DSotK. I want to upload a video of it really soon but I don't want to do it while the level doesn't get a custom song. hate nintendo warnings about copyrighted music man, this sucks so much

I have some extremely disappointing news yet again. And this time, it seriously affects the status of this hack.

Today, my college decided to block SMWC access once more. That said, I am no longer able to log in here or even check out the site so often, meaning there will be absolutely no way for me to read PMs or see if there was some progress update from part of helpers anymore. I also have nowhere else to go to use internet for free, and using mobile access drains up my credits in no time. This is extremely inconvenient, and long story short:

MK2TDS is now downgraded from a collab to a single-person project.

For people currently working on their stuff: your claims won't be erased, but there will be no way for me to visualize nor download anything. So... well, you may also drop your entries if you wish to.

This sucks so much. Once again, Blind Devil disappears into the void... and god knows when will he be back, if ever.

Well, crap. This really is unfortunate. The completion of my entry was getting close, but I guess I'll have to hold off on it now. Hopefully this predicament gets turned on its head in some shape or form for you.

It's really sad that half of the comments after Blind Devil's initial post are mostly about themselves. Saying "man, and here my entry was almost finished too gosh diggity darn it." Your entry isn't the biggest concern here.

Blind Devil, sorry to here your project as it has been has basically been ruined. Well, I said before going away that I'd keep working on this behind the scenes, but it happens that I went through extreme lack of motivation which prevented me from progressing at all, meaning that almost nothing has changed since then.

However, this changes now. I'm still gradually regaining motivation to carry on with my stuff here, but now, at least, I have a base ROM update. Note that I tried to port stuff to a new ROM in order to use LM3.00+ features, but I ran into lots of performance issues in levels that originally didn't have any... and I refuse to use SA-1. So, yeah, while this may disappoint and drive away nearly everyone who'd be willing to contribute with this, that's the route I'm taking, and I honestly hope you understand and respect my choice. The new base ROM has a bunch of new levels inserted as well as some other minor updates and changes.

To finish this post, a small question: would you like me to create a new Discord server for quick discussions, chats and whatnot related to this project? Now I can occasionally check on stuff in there. So, if a good bunch of people agree, then I'll do it.

It's great that you and your project are back, Blind Devil. I would also support that new discord. I doubt I would have time to contribute with levels, but it would be great to give feedback and playtest stuff.
