and it FINALLY arrives... ho boy
Hey there Mates and Femates, this is Daizo, and welcome to a silly contest I decided to host for my 200 Subscriber Special. For those who don't know, the Super Mario World Hack "100 Rooms of Enemies" is getting a MAJOR update featuring the ability to choose modes in a singular rom, as well as a new mode called "Nightmare Mode" where you are pitted against 100 remixed rooms. To contrary, there will also be an update to Arcade Mode where you are able to find harder secret rooms that, when beaten, will allow you to skip rooms. You're objective is to design said Short Cut Rooms and compete against the other entries. Obviously, the winners of this contest will have their room be featured in "100 Rooms of Enemies: The Nightmare Edition". There's quite a few rules I'd like to address before you design "an Arcade Short Cut Room".

The Basic Baserom
-Includes a "sprite kill" block on Block 200.
-Has the Short Cut Room theme inserted as Song #4C (can be heard in Level A0).
-Includes a patch that allows the player to imediately grab items from the item box. This is to fix a bug.
-Includes No More Sprite Tile Limits.

Rules + Suggestions + Other Protips:
-Custom Map16 is allowed, but do try to keep things looking like Vanilla SMW. If you want to reference your own VLDCX entry aesthetically, Private Message me and I'll decide to allow it or not (since Abnormal Asylum is referenced). Use Page 3 for organizational purpouses.
-Because of the brilliance of the magic of ASM wizardry, preformed by the amazing Mellonpizza, you're allowed to use any normal enemy in SMW (this includes ball n' chains). The only sprite that's disallowed is the Info Box.
-For the "Room Number", keep a 1x2 tile 25 tile 3 blocks right and 4 blocks up from the bottom left corner. Here's an image to further explain where it needs to go. An alternative is using a tile that doesn't completely obscure it like here or here. Another solution is using a block that is breakable like here. Just do what it takes to not cover this spot.
-You may use any custom sprite that resembles an SMW enemy. However, keep in mind that we're using Sprite Tool 1.41, though lucky you I may have saved a few of them before they were converted to PIXI format (but even then, there's this too.). The only enemy I won't allow is Elite Koopas. Don't use them. Please.
-As a side note, please do not take using Custom Sprites as an advantage; it could end up with your entry not being the winner if too many people use custom enemies.
-Don't abuse Tile 1F0 either. Try being unique! (That, and I made a level with it already!)
-In fact, don't abuse glitches either. Ya know, stuff like "air climbing", "Tile 1F0", "YUMP Wizardry", etc. Again, too many entries that use them decrease your chances of winning.
-I do suggest playing 100 Rooms of Enemies to get a good feel of things. The Short Cut Rooms are made to be levels that don't fit the normal game, but could very well be included in a potential sequel.
-No, the above does not confirm there will be a sequel. 100 Rooms of Enemies 2 is not a thing and won't ever be, folks. Then again, I don't know why I put this as a "rule" for the contest... uhm, awkward...
-Obviously no custom graphics are allowed, so don't try to make a DKC Ice Cave Chant level as your room. wait, you sayin' there's a room like that in the Moon Vault? Well look, it isn't in the actual game, so don't do it.
-Again, obviously no more than one screen. The only room in 100 Rooms that broke this rule was Room 57 with the autoscrolling, but that's a spooky ghost house room with spooky gimmicks. If you really want to use Room 57 as an inspiration, Private Message me and I'll have the final say.
-If you're really curious, the music used in these rooms is this. It's a little long, but you will be able to play all of the Short Cut rooms in one run when you find all of them.
-UberASM is allowed, but again, don't go mental with it.
-No Kaizo. No pit. No Morsel difficulty.
-When submitting, please include all sprites, UberASM codes, level files, and Map16 pages you've used in the level alongside a BPS or IPS file to play the level. DO NOT INCLUDE A SMC or SFC FILE IN PLACE OF A BPS OR IPS FILE.

Here's a few examples of what I'm looking for in terms of concept:

We will be looking for rooms that are not so simple that it would be classified as a normal 100 Rooms of Enemies level, but not something that's super out of place. These kinds of levels should be the "SMW special world levels" of the game in terms of both uniqueness and difficulty. To get a feel of the difficulty, lategame 100 Rooms is good (aka, Rooms 70-100). That being said, the main thing is the room you design should be fun. Myself and Mellonpizza have the final say as to which rooms are selected for the game by the end of the contest.

Now, your chances of getting in depends on how many people participate in this contest. If there are less than 5 entries, then there are no winners. If there are more than 5, then the contest will be officially judged and one person will be chosen. If there are more than 15 entries, then 3 people will be chosen. If more than 30 join, then it will be the top 5 people who will get their rooms in 100 Rooms of Enemies: Nightmare Mode. If somehow, and I doubt we will achieve this, but if 100 people enter... then any of the short cut rooms I made will be replaced by the top 10 entries.

The first place winner, if we get passed 15 entries, will be getting a 25$ Steam Game. The price will rise to 50$ if we hit 30 entries.

The Deadline will be when the C3 Forums no longer allow you to post. Any entries afterwards will be disqualified. No extensions will be given. If you decide to enter, I wish you all good luck!
