Tip: Using Lunar Magic's "Change Properties in Sprite Header" dialogue, you can adjust the sprite slots in which sprites can spawn. For example, by using a sprite memory setting that doesn't use slot 07, you can easily prevent Reznor breaks in your hack.

Hi, everyone. Welcome to my C3 showoff of my next smw hack called Plextona.

Plextona is an overhead action RPG adventure game similar to something like Zelda 3: A Link to the Past, but only with the smw engine. The whole game will have an Asian like theme.

Why am I doing this? Well, because I haven't really seen anyone else do a full blown overhead style game with the smw engine. It is making me think about all of the resources here in very different ways because I am selectively choosing sprites and such that are compatible with this overhead perspective.

I have a demo available in my wip thread, but just for C3 I am offering the newest demo just below. It's only slightly different though.

I've been drawing out dungeon and level deigns recently and there are many things which I need to get into testing wise. For example I need to test out certain concepts which I already have in mind to see if they work or not.

One thing that I'm doing special with this hack is that I want a lot of the artwork for the game to be 100% original. Here is some of this artwork that I need to start inserting into the game. I haven't shown off this artwork yet in my wip thread. These graphics were drawn by a pixel artist who is part of the project.

I think I also have the main story worked out.

You are a ninja in a village and are a fierce warrior. One day your village is attacked by an evil ninja who is possessed by a demon from another dimension. You engage in a battle against this evil ninja to protect your village, but are killed and left for dead. Then later after everything had been destroyed another being from another dimension comes to you and heals you. Her name is Plextona and she choose to bring you back to life since she believes that you are the only one who can defeat the evil ninja. She gives you powers of great strength, agility and now has a special connection with you. All of the nearby villages have also been ransacked and destroyed by demons and monsters summoned from other dimensions by the evil ninja. You must go on a quest to bring all of this destruction to an end.

This will most likely be a long term project. I probably should not aim for such a big and difficult project to make as I plan on having this be a full length game. Oh well I guess I just dream big. Maybe I might do some smaller hacks while also working on this too. Who knows.....

While I am the main person behind this hack, I could always use a hand or two in terms of help. I currently have some asm things that need to be done an order to make the actual project a reality. So let me know if you want to help out with the project.

Thank you for taking the time to check out my project.

Special thanks goes out to thebiob for coding the character and special 1 screen camera. Without him this project probably wouldn't have happened.
I'll look forward to playing this one.
Almost forgot...

I did design another possible dungeon layout. I haven't inserted it into the game or anything, but just drew something out.

Sometimes you just have to start with an idea, even if you alter it later.

My plan is to use warp tiles to warp the player to different levels to make the levels "feel" bigger than what they are. For example you walk up some stairs and then you reach an upper or lower floor level in the dungeon.
