Edit 9/30/19: Jump to the latest post.

I started hacking SMW in 2007. I loved it. It was and still is one of my favorite hobbies. Sadly, the best I could do as far as level design goes was stuff like this:

Later on, I began to get more serious in my hacking, but sadly I still had a long way to go.

I've had different aliases here and there on the site, and the work I would submit was often awful and amateur at best.

Eventually I would go on to make more decent things, but unfortunately I lost everything I used to make what was going to be my magnum opus. I took some time away from hacking to focus more on more pressing matters like school and work.

Now, I plan on returning to the SMW hacking scene with this.

I was only able to finish one world in the past month, but I tried my very best to put every effort to make this one special.

The name of this hack, for the time being, is going to be SMW: Adventures in the Drawmension. It is going to be the continuation of my last hack demo, SMW: The Creator.

I won't disclose the storyline for this hack simply because it's in its early stages and everything is tentative, but play it if you're really interested in finding out, I'm hoping you'll enjoy it.

tl;dr
DOWNLOAD THE DEMO OF THIS HACK HERE!
Edit 9/30/19: Demo 2 is out, download that instead!

I've been putting off making a thread for my hack simply because I still had to work out some SERIOUS kinks here and there. For that reason, I would highly appreciate as much feedback as possible. If you find bugs and errors in it (which I am expecting plenty of while it's still in development), please let me know on here or through PM. ASM is still an area that I have no knowledge about and this hack has only seen the light thanks to those who have helped me out whenever I've gotten stuck on ASM problems and that kind of stuff. Thanks to you too. I want to give SMWC something back for all the creativity it's inspired in me.

Additionally, I will be posting updates as far as level progress goes on this thread so that I can feel at least a little obligated to finish this project (since I seem to carry this stigma of never finishing what I start).

Enjoy and thanks!
Wow! That's really nice man! I love the palletes, the overworld, all of it!

MARIO WAS ATTACKED BY ME, THE KOOPA WIZARD!
I remember playing your Demo of The Creator way back then and I remember that i really enjoyed it too. Your demo takes a lot of ideas from it and I really like it.
The levels, overworld and general presentation was really amazing. The story, while rather weird, is really nicely done as well.

I noticed one small display error though:
when the player collects one of the carrots (aka yoshi coin equivalents), the icon in the statusbar still is a coin. It's not hard to change though and I assume you'd change it eventually anyways.

Overall this hack is looking really promising and I'm definetly keeping an eye on this for future updates! #smrpg{y}

(btw you should consider using .bps instead of .ips in the future)

Thank you! I'm aiming for a good choco-nilla mix for this hack palette and gfx-wise. I'm glad you like it #smw{^_^}

I'll get right to work on that one! Thanks for the heads up.
I had a great time playing through the demo. The bright palettes accompanied by the cheerful kirby-esque music really helps give this hack a unique personality of it's own.

There were a few glitches that I ran into, all of them having to do with 1-2:
-If you die in 1-2's sublevel mario's sprite on the overworld becomes invisible.
-If the player re-enters 1-2 after having completed it, they'll be sent to the midway point rather than the start of the level.
-There are some priority issues in 1-2's sublevel with a few sprites like the power-ups and mario's pipe warping. Not really that big a deal, but it's a bit distracting.

Also I didn't realize that you could talk to Sunny until I got to 1-4. That's definitely something you should address. Just add a little exclamation point above him or something.

This hack is really promising, and I'm excited to see what more you have planned for it! #smrpg{:D}

EDIT:
Don't know if this was intentional, but at the end of 1-5's void when the big goomba pops up you just instantly get warped here. I assume it was supposed to be a boss fight?

Thank you for reporting these. I wouldn't catch bugs like these otherwise.

How peculiar... I had encountered a glitch like this on another project of mine in the past but never understood what caused this. Perhaps it has to do with the vertical level orientation or something O_o I'll have to ask in the forums about it, very weird.

Interesting, I tried replicating this but it sent me to the start of the level as expected. I'll be on the lookout for this one.

I think I can come up with a creative way around this using a regular looping background for the waterfall. Thanks for the idea.

Exclamation point it is, then!

Ahh yes it was. That was an oversight of mine. I spoke with Darkbloom, the author of the UberASM used for that level responsible for teleporting the player after defeating the boss, but I had forgotten to change the boss' sprite properties to allow the ASM to detect it as a sprite that turns into a coin with a silver POW. So yeah, heheheh. Not intentional, now fixed. Will upload an update soon addressing all of these issues, many thanks!

Nice to see your getting back to the hacking scene, dggonzalz! I can't wait to see the full release coming soon...if you still have more time!

After an obscenely long time, I'm posting Demo 2 of this hack. First notable change since the last demo is the title: Sunny's Rescue Mission. Like I mentioned before, as I develop the story into something more coherent, you can expect many elements of it to drastically change. Anyways, screenshots:

The main reason this took me so long is because I basically had to port over the whole thing again because of new hacking tools, new LM, etc. On top of that, many added life responsibilities have made it hard to keep working on it, but I digress.

I wouldn't recommend using the same SRAM as the previous demo. Please leave feedback and tell me what you think! I would love to see how I can improve and ideas are more than welcome.
Woah, its cool to see that you are working on this hack again, I played the old demo at the time of its release and it was a nice experience.
I'm looking foward for this.
And good luck with the project#smw{:TUP:}
I totally forgot about this hack. I played a bit of the demo. the levels and aesthetics are very nice. And i like how colorful they are. I also noticed how similar the story of my own hack is to this one lol.
