Version 2.0.0 is now live, and alongside it, Piranha Plant is now available if you've registered your copy of the game (you have until Thursday to register your copy if you haven't already).
Don't have my own copy as I don't own a Switch, but my friend does and he just got the Plant. Gotta get over to his house so I can beat him with his own vegetation...

Major PSA: There have been numerous reports of players' save data being corrupted or erased after playing as Piranha Plant in All-Star mode. There have also been reports of the same issues occurring when playing as Duck Hunt or Mii Swordfighter in Century Smash. Might be best to outright avoid the entire Games and More section (Smash, World of Light, and Online all appear to be safe) until a fix is released.
Also worth noting that Smash does support Switch Online's cloud save backup functionality, so just in case anyone falls victim to this, here's how to get your save file back:
1. Go to the Switch's home menu.
2. Highlight Smash's icon and press +
3. Choose your profile, then choose “Save Data Cloud Backup”.
4. Choose “Download Backup Data”.

Looks like Piranha Plant's address for that particular mode overlaps those particular addresses for Duck Hunt and Mii Swordfighter. How's it arranged in the save file, I wonder? It's exactly how MISSINGNO. overwrites the Hall of Fame when decompressing its sprite, or this little gem I discovered in Lunar Magic from a while back:

fixed a bug from 1.40 (which became more noticeable in 2.10) where changes to the last 8 entries in LM's "Destroy Level Tile Settings" dialog could cause Ghost House/Castle/etc tiles to no longer give the player a save prompt when the event had already been cleared. This is partly due to a mistake in Nintendo's code, as it treats the list as 0x18 bytes long when it's really only 0x10 bytes. This version of LM relocates the table so it can safely have all 0x18 entries, and repairs the other 8 bytes that may have been changed in previous versions. Thanks goes out to Wiimeiser for helping to figure this out.
Well, what happens, exactly? What does the game and Nintendo Switch do? Is there a video of someone using Piranha Plant in All-Star Mode?

I'm not sure of the specifics, but it appears to be simple checksum corruption, like loading certain file formats in a hex editor and inserting garbage data everywhere messes up the checksum, which doesn't line up so the game refuses to load it. Happens a lot in Pokemon games if you quit while saving. My hypothesis is the game has an address conflict (possibly with the other two fighters based on the fact they're also affected) when actually writing the data to the file, and the game stores the checksums separately but only updates one, so one will never line up and the game therefore considers the file to be corrupt. Of course, this will require datamining to confirm for certain...

So, if you play All-Star Mode with Pirahna Plant, does the Nintendo Switch display a message when the match is over or when you start the game from the Home Menu or something?

honestly hoping the joker hype dies fairly quickly. seeing the same character literally everywhere is getting stale fast, even if he's kinda fun to play.

Gosh, I feel like an idiot for rushing to get the DLC and only realizing afterwards that the Fighter Pass is actually a better buy.
It's only, what, one dollar more expensive per character? So 5 more dollars if you buy them all individually.
While I was definitely happy with Joker being put in (loved P5 and this is coming from someone who doesn't usually like JRPGs), I definitely didn't care for any of the new additions that were in the Smash 4 DLC (don't care about Cloud, Ryu, or Bayo). So I'm playing it safe again and buying individually depending on whether or not the remaining DLC are characters I even want to buy in the first place, as I never even bought Cloud, Ryu, or Bayo for Smash 4. If I end up liking all of them it'll only cost me 5 dollars over the course of months so eh not a big loss.

It's like Christmas and my birthday are happening twice this year and on this day at the same time. I'm excited for both but the 2nd takes the cake. Much love to Nintendo, Sakurai and his team of course but also
O.K., why does it just say "Hero"? That just seems really bizarre. They could have just said, um, how about HIS NAME!? What's his name? Link is a hero, too, you know. Sorry, but I know nothing about Dragon Quest other than the fact that it's a Square Enix RPG series.
I would NEVER expect Banjo and Kazooie. It shouldn't have even been POSSIBLE for them to get into Super Smash Bros! They're owned by MICROSOFT, Nintendo's DIRECT COMPETITOR, so how can they possibly get into Super Smash Bros?! Their last game was I believe Banjo Kazooie: Nuts and Bolts in 2006. I thought Yooka and Laylee have essentially replaced them. Also, because everyone including Nintendo knew that Banjo and Kazooie couldn't get into Super Smash Bros., they created Duck Hunt, a character with a similar type of play style. Because Duck Hunt exists, it didn't seem like Banjo and Kazooie would ever get in. I do like how they teased Duck Hunt in the trailer, though.

I don't know much about Dragon Quest myself, but they likely used The Hero as the name to encompass the other skins for the character, which seem to be protagonists from other Dragon Quest games.
I'm excited for both characters, but seeing Banjo and Kazooie just made me so happy. Hats off to those that made Banjo-Kazooie in Smash possible, seriously.
And don't forget that we still have two DLC slots left to be announced!
I only know what Dragon Quest is from Fortune Street for the Wii. I don't remember seeing the character they showed in the trailer (Hero? Is that their name?).
Is Dragon Quest like The Legend of Zelda in some way? The characters resemble Link too much... heck, the slimes could resemble Chu jellies too.
