Thread Title: Are arson jokes allowed?

Some people may not take arson lightly, and I felt I needed to report it.

I'm positive this isn't a joke but is instead just some kind of metaphor. Even if it was a tasteless joke it's not really in the category of things we would moderate or warn for, and especially so in this instance because there's no threat of action.
Title: User setting for filtering kaizo/standard hacks

There ought to be a setting that, when enabled in user settings page, completely hides all kaizo/standard hacks in the SMW hacks section. There is too much of a divide between these two types of hacks, with many people who are into standard hacks having zero interest in kaizo, to smaller extent vice-versa. On a personal note, I will add that seeing an eye-catching hack title then finding out that it's a kaizo hack is just infuriating.

you can search solely for standard or kaizo hacks by using the search filter already, so if you're not looking for any kaizo, just don't include kaizo in the search terms.

if simply seeing kaizo hacks (or hacks labeled as both kaizo and standard) in the hack section is too frustrating... 🤷. but we have no reason to implement a feature to completely hide kaizo or standard hacks entirely from the hack section since you can simply just, yknow, use the search filters and they won't show up when you're browsing for new hacks.

Is there a possibility that rejected resources and hacks could still be downloaded after their rejection via the rejection log?

Unfortunately, there's a few logistical reasons why we don't host removed resources. Among others, the total filesize would start to greatly add up, and we'd have issues with spam, potential abuse, and/or broken submissions. For example, if someone submits a hack that's full of slurs or malware to the site, we probably wouldn't want to archive that. Or, if someone submits a corrupted or unusable submission, there's no point in hosting that either, and it would simply waste server space. Ultimately, addressing these problems would just create a second layer of moderation, which defeats the purpose of doing this in the first place.

If there's a specific resource you're after, moderators usually have a recent archive of the things they've rejected, so you could just reach out to them and see.
This feedback is a continuation from this post.

The issue is that these filters have to be applied each time you visit the section, really. I suggested a user profile settings since I figured it would be easier to implement, but the alternative of the site remembering the filter settings would be fine too. Either one eliminates the issue of having to remember to apply filters every single time, which can take more time than actually looking for new hacks when you check it daily.

The site remembering filter settings between searches by default isn't good because it's NOT a safe assumption that someone will want to retain the same settings between each search. Remember that this feature would be applied to everyone. This can lead to having to change the settings twice for a single filtered search: once to apply the filter for the current search, and once to remove it for the next one.

Okay, so why not implement it as a toggle in Edit Profile? The issue here is that the subsection of people who would get any use out of this feature are those who:

1) use the filter function in the hack section often enough to get annoyed by the few seconds it takes to filter every time
2) want to use the same filter at least most of the time, and
3) will actually notice the feature in Edit Profile.

And that subsection is so small that it's unlikely to be worth the time it takes to code such a feature. In fact, I don't think I've seen anyone bring this up as an issue before now.

As an aside, anybody who's checking the hacks section every day probably doesn't need to use the filter function anyway. The section is sorted by date with most recent first by default, so the few hacks that were added to the site over the past day will be right there at the top of the list.

so make one and then voila, itll have a gif ;)

less snarky answer: moderation upkeep is already taxing as is, and while we do prefer that all non-music resources have gifs or screenshots, some older ones simply... do not, and we don't really have the time to go back and make gifs for all of them on top of moderating new resources. but you, the Users, are more than welcome to make gifs for older resources and send them our way, and we'll add them. it alleviates the weight on us as well. but it is not our responsibility. why dont you give being a janny a try

Also, I'm a huge data analysis nerd and wanted to ask if you wouldn't mind sharing some of your google analytics with me for a side project that I'm doing. I'm very interested to see how large your community is as well as how much interest there is in Romhacking.

Let me know if you'd be willing to share this information with me.

This feedback wasn't anonymous, but I think it's worthwhile to respond to it publicly.

SMW Central does not use Google Analytics or other trackers. Even though they provide useful data, we believe user privacy is more important in a diverse community like ours. See also this post from the Site Changelog.

On the topic of user privacy, even if we did use analytics, we would never share the data with third parties (such as the author of this feedback). Doing so would violate users' trust and breach our Privacy Policy.
