There ain't no C3 without me doing my thread about my hack. Unlike all the other times I don't have a trailer though!
So what am I here for this time?
After struggling with progress for over 2 months I decided to redo the hack from the ground up in a new rom with new all around. So here I am presenting to you the reimagining of my W.I.P. Hack Do The Mario. This project has undergone quite a lot of drastic changes during this process, though I will only cover the most important ones for now.
- There's only one collectible to get per stage
- The Worlds will now have deeper explored themes*
- There will be a lot of new and reappearing stages from old demos and showoffs
*deeper explored themes as in the world isn't just a standard grass/beach/desert world, but it will have some interesting scenery and decoration to make it more unique and memorable. For example look at the screenshot of World 1's submap below. It isn't just plain grassland with some decoration but it has a proper theme going on with flowers and turnips scattered around.
And now for the part you're probably here for, Screenshots!
I think and hope that I can finally work on this project with my full potential.
Oh hey, this is looking pretty gorgeous! I don't recall seeing screenshots of the pre-revamp version, but you're definitely on the right track with this one. There's not much to say about the level design, but you've definitely nailed the "choconilla" style (do people still call it that?), and the palettes are sweet as well.
The only thing that might take some getting used to is the status bar.
Agreeing with WYE, the status bar is the one major detractor people have because its too big with its numbers and that P-Meter, though I do like the visuals of the levels above.
-------------------- On Pixel Art Requests: I generally do not accept work unless I either have the time, if I see your project worth my time to contribute towards, and that is usually me doing the approaching to you on that.
-I also do not accept speculative work as I do have various art I made on-hand with me.
-I am more receptive to equivalent exchange of resources in which case, you can DM me wherever I have an active presence on for the details.
-Other times I'm availible for your project is C3 request threads I may run.
These visuals are gorgeous. I love the color choices and I think that seeing those giant turnip things on the world map is an adorable detail.
I agree that the status bar is too large. Is there a sound effect that plays when the speed meter gets filled?
Apart from that though i also really like your screenshots. They look really promising.
Don´t worry if you need a long time to make progress with your hack. Taking your time is definitely better than rushing everything. It´s the result, that counts and it should be as perfect as possible. I don´t need to play your hack by tomorrow, but when i eventually download it, i want to have lots of fun, so investing some more time in polishing is defintiely the preferable choice (even if there isn´t much i can see, which would need some polishing, judging from these screenshots)
I was kinda disappointed when you decided to cancel it, but I'm glad to see that it's just having a good o' reboot. Hopefully it gets completed this time!

Those screens look gorgeous, Tob. Your grassland/garden levels look like a more refined version of the concept behind the first World of Super Luigi Land. I agree with whoever complemented the use of the veggie plants as Overworld decorations.
