Started another contest, but IDK if I'm going to participate, I do not even know how to hack Yoshi's island. But i have a long time, I can try to learn it and try to do something.

What are the limits for the YI Addmusic without having problems on real SNES?
I'd need to look into that a bit more. I don't think AddmusicY is dependent on any emulator inaccuracies so any custom music should work on SNES in theory, like with SMW.

If you want to be super cautious about it though you could try submitting multiple versions of your level.

Hmmm, I'm down with that. Doesn't mean I specifically plan to make one tho. Not yet 100% certain of even the level setting, but if it's due near the end of December, then that shouldn't conflict with Nanowrimo.

How am I so creative? I think taking walks might have something to do with it.
Every single level I will ever make in SMM2 will be easier than Ultra Necrozma.
If anyone curious, this is the beta of the page I mentioned in the Layer 3 Sheet comments. It's currently unfinished (need to add some gifs, make the visuals looks better and some of the tilesets hasn't been fully tested) but can be a good alternative to the document itself.

I'm very interested in this contest, it's most likely I'm going to participate.
Is there anywhere at all to download custom YI songs?

Few songs are included in the YI Addmusic. If you want any other music, you need to port them yourself.
I'm not sure if I should participate in this contest. I'll think about it.

I so desperately want to participate in my first contest on this site. But I've never once hacked Yoshi's Island even though it's my favorite Mario game of all time... I just don't know, man...

You sure this is a good idea? You're just gonna end up with a ton of levels using the SM3DW port since there's literally nothing else available.

I compiled together most of the YI ports that I could find on my hard drive just now. Some of them are of...questionable quality, but hey better than nothing.

Minor update to the rules. After some consideration I've decided to remove the bonus point for custom music due to the low number of existing ports. Custom music will instead be part of the Presentation category.

In its place I've added a bonus point for creating a custom level tile.

If it's okay, you should include a bonus point for having a custom level name.

Also, I was afraid this would happen. I am scared to try to make aw level now. Will the judges be really overcritical if you use the music from the previous contest or something or as long as the music works, it should be fine? Last time, they were really overcritical. They were like I couldn't use that music for a castle because it did not match or something, but like other people said, there weren't a lot of songs. Also, every time I inserted the music, I kept getting an enhanced version of the original music so I think you should still have a bonus point for custom music to help your score but not have it required. Is it okay to have other people test my level before I submit the final version?


I am not sure if I want to make a level. I just had a good idea for a SMW level, but I have not done any SMW2 level in a long time.

Is someone going to play the levels on their live stream or on Youtube after the contest is over?

"Custom music will instead be part of the Presentation category" is not actually a functional change. The Presentation category was already concerned with music, and the description of the category has not been changed since the start of the contest.

What music you use should not be a concern as long as it fits. This goes for both custom and vanilla music.
Considering this contest allows for and encourages custom assets, will there ever be a Vanilla YI Level Design contest?
Yeah removing the point for custom music is good.
Simply because the original YI musics are already great, would rather hear them again than a bad port.
That and I don't play many YI hacks so they don't feel as overused as the SMW musics but that's just me.

I'm gonna try to participate. I wonder how much YI has changed in 4 years and how easier is it to do stuffs now. Did Golden Egg got updated?
