Tip: Test your levels as all forms of Mario (small, super, fire, cape). If it's possible to enter a level with Yoshi, make sure to test that as well.Not logged in.

I'm entirely new to Yoshi Island hacking, and I'm only attempting it because I wanted to try out the contest just for the fun of it. But I'm completely lost.

How can you tell within the editor if the sprites you're using aren't going to be glitched?
I can tell I'm going be around this thread a lot, hehe #smw{^_^;}
Golden Egg will not show sprites. One way of telling if the sprite will work is to open the header editor to see the sprite tileset. Then use this to see which sprites will work. It's not ideal - for one, the sprite names are all based on the EggVine names rather than the GE names - but it should be useful.

The only way to know for sure, though, is to test it in an emulator.

By the way, for small questions like this, the best place to post them is in the FAQ.
Will do. Cheers!
