We now have a new section - the YI Music section. Here you can submit music specifically for YI. The aim of this section is to make it easier for people to add custom music to their YI hacks/levels, like we already have for SMW.

There are a few differences between SMW Music and YI Music, though. The main difference is that AddMusicY, by Jimmy, is used instead of AddMusicK for YI music. This cannot yet add more music, only replace existing music. Also, in this section .mml files will be required, instead of .txt, although this shouldn't make too much of a difference.

There is a tutorial here for inserting custom music into your ROM, as well as generating the .spc file required to submit your music to the section.
Will that section be moderated by the YI moderation staff alone or will the SMW music moderation staff be getting in on that as well?

It will be moderated by the moderators of the former section.
That's a question we're exploring right now.
I'm glad this is finally happening. However, I think the Tool should be submitted and approved to the Tools section, because it's weird to have an official section for music and the tool itself not submitted. Plus, I don't know how to feel about the fact the patch uses xkas to assemble, it should be converted to asar if possible, as xkas is obsolete (I know you can use both xkas and asar in the same rom without problems, but still).

Other than that, thanks for this announcement! I hope now porters explore YI music a bit more.

The tool cannot be submitted without Jimmy's permission. Also, the tool is currently a beta (it was first released during the 2014 YI Level Design Contest and hasn't been updated since, if I remember correctly) so that is why it currently uses xkas. If it is submitted, though, tool/ASM moderators could potentially convert the patch to Asar.
It's weird that we have an official section while we still don't have an official version of AddMusicY. I think the full version that uses Asar should be prepared for submitting ASAP.

Also, I support an SPC player for YI music, just like we have it for SMW custom music.
How do you call an animation about cars? A car-toon!
It is weird, but currently we're working with what we've got. There no better time to do this than now, what with a new team and a YI contest going on now. Perhaps now that the ball is rolling, we can get an updated AddMusicY, or at the very least one updated to modern standards.
Last I heard from Jimmy, he was going to try to update AddMusicY to make the patch ASAR compatible.

Already done. The player has worked like the SMW one since the section's creation.
I can't wait to see how well the music sounds under the Yoshi's Island soundfont. As someone who has dabbled with MML in the past, I'm certainly all eyes and ears. I may give porting a try when time isn't pressing, even.
