So since the YE music section
now exists, I thought I'd check it out. I have comments/questions of my own but I also think it would be cool if other people chime in with their own thoughts at some point.
First, I read through the readme files and I have to say, I do like the syntax AMY uses. Good thing you don't need hex commands because its commands are different from AMK, though their purpose looks at least to be exactly the same. But pretty much every command has a non-hex equivalent and there are macros that make things easier. No more getting hex values for ADSR for instance! And as cool as it is to have figured it out for the purposes of getting it right with AMK, you can't complain when there's an easier way. AMK really needs to adopt this syntax. Probably wouldn't even be hard since I'd suspect most commands are just converting to hex equivalents.
I haven't actually tested the tool yet. Before I do, I'm curious about some things.
1. Doesn't look like you can generate SPCs quickly. I don't know how people worked like that before SPC generation was possible... But if there's a quick way to generate SPCs, I'm all ears!
2. Is anything unexpected gonna happen when converting music from SMW to YE, assuming the instruments are set up correctly and the rest of the commands are changed to the AMY syntax?
3. I noticed that AMY unsampled music on the site at least is a tiny bit lower pitched than SMW unsampled. Not by much at all though. I wonder if this is an engine thing or just how the instruments in YE are tuned.
4. Just for curiosity, which tool overall has more or less music slowdown? Or isn't there much difference?
There might be more from me in future, but I'll leave it at this now. Thanks for reading!
Make more of less, that way you won't make less of more!
