Uninstalling PIXI from your hack
(note: tested on a clean ROM and my hack which has like 25 patches and it worked fine on both, just in my hack I confirmed it to be incompatible with QuickROM so if you have it patched then unpatch it with Unpatcher)
GIEPY is becoming the standard sprite tool for the sprite, and as demostrated by Telinc1, it has more advantages than the current PIXI (and Romi's SpriteTool)
, being more friendly, stable and less limited.
But let's stop praising GIEPY: currently, as you might have read in that thread (btw you might have not seen it since it encourages you to skip to the third list so go and check the second one), it has one downside: unlike PIXI, it can't uninstall a previous sprite tool from your ROM
, basically forcing you to port everything to a new ROM just for switching to GIEPY.
But no more worries! If you have PIXI in your ROM and want to switch to GIEPY, I got it covered. I ran into the same issue in my hack and since I didn't want to port everything to a new ROM, I managed to uninstall PIXI
from it and got GIEPY to work on it without problem. Now I want to share this with everyone.
Want to get rid of PIXI in your ROM? This is what you need:
PIXI (of course).
. This is a patch I've done that will remove any piece of shit
PIXI from your ROM, like if nothing happened there.
Now, follow these steps:
Make a copy of your PIXI-fied ROM, you'll see why later.
Open your list.txt from your PIXI folder and empty it.
Open the "routines" folder and remove every file from it.
Use PIXI in your ROM. It should look like this:
Open asar and insert the patch I provided above to your ROM.
Play your ROM and go to a place where a custom sprite used to be, and it should be gone/a SMW sprite should be in place. That means you've successfully uninstalled PIXI from your ROM, and it's ready to receive GIEPY! But...
If you had sprites that used extra bytes, then levels with one of these sprites in Lunar Magic will have screwed up sprites. That's why we created a copy of the PIXI-fied hack. You will need to have both ROMs opened up in Lunar Magic, remove the sprites form the non-PIXI ROM, select every sprite from the level of the PIXI ROM, and copy it to the non-PIXI ROM. Exporting and importing levels won't work.
I hope this was useful for you. Do note that it isn't a "go from PIXI to GIEPY instantly" tutorial, just a "uninstall PIXI" tutorial. If necessary, you will still have to deal with some GIEPY issues, though most of the time you will have to trigger the "Enable PIXI compatible mode" on piee.
