technically finished but it wasn't to the standard they want in the music section currently. stuff about not using panning, adsr, and the main piano sample cutting out too quickly. fair criticisms but i'm not really focused on this one anymore

Sonic Forces - Mortar Canyon
started this one right after finishing off Underground Zone (which took like a whole year cuz i never worked on it lol). fun fact: this (unfinished) port was made before a MIDI transcription of this song existed! if i ever finish it i will use that but for now have ear port first half of the song

Sonic and the Black Knight - Dragon's Lair
the only stage theme with a MIDI on VGMusic! i love the black knight ost so much and working on this song has been a joy. expect to see it in the music section when it's finished, hopefully =)
(also i put 50 whole rests at the end of each channel so it "ends" where i last transcribed anything, dont let the SPC restarting surprise you lol

I broke my windows partition so another SPC I had started is gone, luckily dragon's lair is backed up
I made Deltarune - Field of Hopes and Dreams port about 5 moths(?) ago, and uploaded it on Youtube(This video is older one), not here LOL.

Atomic_Chameleon, your port is mostly really good for a first time! however i would suggest doing something about that @9 sample. SMW doesnt have great piano samples so try and find something else that might fit the role a little better. personally I think an @3 might do it but experiment with it and see what you come up with!

It's interesting, I like both versions for different reasons. However I think the main issue in general is instrument tuning. That's something I still need to learn.


On a different note, I completed another song too: Kaepora Gaebora's Theme from Ocarina of Time/Majora's Mask. I can imagine it fitting comically into short levels or scenes in hacks that involve conveying information to the player (or the player selecting responses lol). I'd appreciate some feedback by anybody on this too!

the Mario Galaxy track sounds a lot better now! it still seems a little off but I'm not really sure what else could be done here, there's not a lot you can do when the original song is streamed instead of sequenced

anyway, Crystal Cave from Black Knight! another (unfinished) ear port as there are no midis of this song. not really sure why the part where I messed with the drums sounds so muddy, probably because that drum setup doesn't mesh too well with @17 as a bassline. also I looped that part too many times lol, there's a different section in the real track
Nice job so far on Crystal Cave! @17 works well for the guitar and bass stuff.

In the section from 0:17-0:30 (right after the crazy drum fill), I noticed there is an extra drum hit in the original song that you can add in with no problem (basically during the recurring single eighth rests in the drum part you wrote) as well as a couple guitar notes that occur during their own recurring two eighth rests (two eighth note E's that are once octave lower). I think if you throw those in, that whole section will sound much fuller! #tb{:D}

ya so this time we got woodman's stage from megaman 2! i figured i needed something short n sweet to get myself back into porting cuz i'd been away from it for a while and i was having trouble motivating. im rly proud of this. (base midi is actually listed under Wily Wars on vgmusic but i kinda felt like all the NES woodman midis weren't great)

theres probably room for some adsr but im gonna submit as is for some more specific feedback on that front

Here's my first SPC.

I'd say it turned out alright. Learning to mess with ADSR and other hex code to get the sound right was the hard part, and the piano sounds slightly off key for some reason, but that's weird since it's unsampled and I didn't change the tuning. Anyway, this is about as good as I can get it with my current knowledge. What do you guys think?
