Tip: Test your levels as all forms of Mario (small, super, fire, cape). If it's possible to enter a level with Yoshi, make sure to test that as well. Not logged in.

Sneeze9x is a modified version of Snes9x that has options for compatibility with older hacks.

List of compatibility options (these are in the Emulation Settings menu):
  • Slow down the SA-1 clock a bit, to fix hacks that use the SA-1 pack without AMK. This is caused by the SA-1 waiting a fixed number of cycles for the SPC to catch up, but the new speed throws off that timing.
  • Disable writing the echo buffer to ARAM. This fixes hacks that use old versions of Addmusic, which depend on that behavior.
All of these are toggleable, you can (and should) disable them when they are not needed.

I have included a windows exe (should be possible to use as a drop-in replacement for snes9x.exe) and a (unix, not asar) patch file you can apply to the 1.58 source code. The GTK and Win32 ports are tested, and the Unix port should work too. The OSX port isn't changed.

Thanks to Selicre for suggesting the name and TheBiob for compiling it on Windows.
Congratulations randomdude999, this tool is very good, now I can play old hacks without Zsnes!
Nice mod that you made for the Snes9x, I don't know if it's the first mod ever for the Snes9x or not but still pretty good.

One small problem is that while I was playing some ROMS from either SMW games or other SNES games is the audio.

I'm not sure if it's me, but while the music plays perfectly with good FPS, sometimes I hear random "crackly" noises but goes away in a second but after awhile it comes back and ends after the second.

I messed around with the audio settings and the new mod settings but nothing has worked to stop it.

Maybe because It's version 1.58? I'm using version 1.55 and it has perfectly clear audio with no crackly sounds at all.
