My another attempt on making a level for a vanilla contest. The first one was a failure due to change of PC. I mean, I lost my entry upon the change and then I couldn't have worked on it any further. Hopefully, this year I won't fail and make my level actually good.

Anyways, I revived my idea of a heaven level, but what deluded me a lot was that chainsaws conflicted with Magikoopas and therefore the latter won't make their appearance in the level. I decided to stick to platforms and said chainsaws. I swear I'm more inspired and I'll be less lazy than last VLDC and I'll make the level actually good.

I primarily wanted to use Magikoopas, but I forgot they transformed some throw blocks into Thwimps. Hopping flames won't make their appearance, either. On the other hand, I can use chainsaws, rocks, Bob-ombs, and bubbles.

Yeah I would absolutely change the swinging platform back to it's original design, and I do think the pokey would look better with a third star on it's head but that's my own opinion.

Knocking on wood that nothing happens to ruin your entry this year, haha~
Some more replacements. As well as an uneven aesthetic choice. I want your honest opinion on what I've done.


Green platforms are apparently scale platforms from Butter Bridge 1. I replaced the mushroom on Pokey's head with a star. In case you're asking about the two other stars, it's a sprite I won't use anymore.


As you can tell, I reverted the chain platform's graphics to the previous state. The star is a ground-guided Fuzzy. Also, that Hammer Bro's now throwing magic! And tell me whether that cement block in the ground looks weird or not.

All right, now to level design! I'll finish the aesthetics later.

I've never been a fan of the half a cement in the ground, personally. But you can use it if you want!
I like the idea of the hammer bro throwing magic, I think that's a nice touch. The HDMA is nice too.
I've made some progress in it! A short reminder I'm currently not working on aesthetics and some replacements might be subject to change. I haven't changed the stars around 0:45 since I want more people to let me know if this Fuzzy replacement is fine or not. I'll definitely change palettes and add decoration here, though. As for now, you may enjoy design (or not)!

I only got two votes in the poll, both from one person so I'm closing it and I encourage you to comment on replacements I need to amend in your post! I wanna make sure the final version of my level is free of any (major) flaws.

I would just keep the fuzzy's original graphics, honestly... The pokey is tolerable.
The bouncing spiny is a neat replacement!
Guess what lads! My level's finally done! Not sure what to say about it aside that I'm proud of A E S T H E T I C S I've done, but I'm not sure if this level feels unfocused. I wholeheartedly encourage you to leave your feedback on it so I know what fixes can be done before the contest ends.

EDIT (2019/3/12): Fixed several things in level 42 and screen exits in levels 37 and 21.
EDIT (2019/13/3): Fixed an obstacle in level 21 and a puzzle in level 37.
EDIT (2019/13/3) (2): Actually fixed an obstacle in level 21.
EDIT (2019/15/3): Fixed a few obstacles in level 37 and added one more reset door in level 42. Also made the text in message boxes more readable.

Sure wish I knew why everyone counts out their submissions as garbage before anyone's played them. It looks quite pretty.

Maybe that's because of lack of their confidence about their hacking skills or it's simply witty. In my instance, it was both.

Oh, here's the real reason why I'm posting:

Major update time!

After I had seen ECS.98's comments on my level, I made some fixes including:
- gameplay changes that make the level more focused
- a change in level 21's part with scale platforms that makes the whole level less repetitive
- a minor change in mushroom platforms' palette
- no more softlocks

Go play it dude!
