Greetings community, recently after watching a lot of mario maker vids and some of my fav players playing romhacks, i got interested in making a hack again, im mostly done with my overworld finally but there is one thing i didnt think all the way through.

How does the vanilla game make the Valley of Bowser overworld transition tile work? i imagined it would have been the "black" red connection tile, but then i started thinking that it would look like a black hole in my overworld until valley of bowser was actually triggered.

Could someone elaborate on how to make the Valley of Bowser properly emerge like in the original game? i tried searching the site but didnt quite find details on this event.

thank you all in advance, i can attach images later if necesary.

I assume you're referring to the earthquake? In that case, it's tied to beating a specific level number. By default, that level is level 18, but you can change the number through "Overworld -> Change Boss Sequence Levels" and then the "Earthquake Sequence" level.

If you just mean getting the head to emerge, that's just a series of overlaid Layer 2 event tiles. You can see the sequence as the 6x6 tiles 0x10 through 0x18.

hmmm, nope im afraid thats not what i meant, i meant to ask what does the game "use" for the transition tile into valley of bowser?, as in the "red path" to connect the overworld to the valley of bowser. because in the vanilla overworld it seems to be just water, but i didnt see such a tile in the layer 1 tiles for red paths.

Edit: i apologise for the inconvenience, i just found my own answer. i opened the vanilla rom to have a second look, and the tile it uses is the "transparent bridge with a vertical red exit" i didnt realise this was an actually invisible bridge in-game!
