Tip: Try sketching out ideas for overworlds and levels. Even if they don't manage to fit into Lunar Magic completely, at least you have a base to work from, instead of doing it all from scratch.

[Non-level] Does anyone find themselves jumping into a pit or enemy to repleish more time in a lot of the VLDC levels this year?

It might just be me. I'm pretty bad at video games.

I know people have definitely made their level shorter than the previous year. Still, it's very stressful to beat some of these levels if you aren't good or don't know what's coming.

I'm definitely guilty of creating a sort of lengthy level with a tight time limit (used the full 500)... #smw{x_x}

Yup. Your level is definitely guilty of this. It's not the easiest of levels either. Though I will admit, I like the visuals and
the neat setups with the Bowser statues.

Hi.
Yeah people didn't take the time limit rule seriously enough, or even attempted to consider people play at different pace.

But its good step as old VLDC's had some ridiculously long levels, and then theres secret exit too.

Very unfortunate. You think people will take it seriously next year if the time limit slightly affects their score? That's of course assuming the 500 second rule will still be in place for the next one. Because even some of the highly respected designers neglected the time rule. #tb{''}

Hi.
From what I've played so far, the level length itself could be considered borderline acceptable. The problem is exactly on what JP32 said about playing at a different pace. Some levels, especially puzzle-oriented ones, had several time-consuming steps which made 500 seconds not enough to beat them. This, and the fact that I usually go for all Yoshi Coins in a single run, aggravate the situation, because in order to get them all, you can't die and start from the midway point. Yes, dying at the midway point came up as a good alternative for me to "know the entire level beforehand" so I could later replay it and get all stuff I wanted... which is not cool. We should be able to do everything in a single, normal run by default.

Definitely appreciate the feedback! Being my first entry to a VLDC, I want to know all my strengths and opportunities.

I'm relieved this isn't just me being awful at these levels. I'm surprised you bother with the Yoshi Coins on levels which you are tight for time. The actual judges would probably only collect them on the ones that have plenty of leftover seconds. At least that's what the submission thread implies anyway.

That's a first level! Wow impressive! It's weird to think that there are quite a few good first entries in this contest.

Tbh, I've done quite a bit of SMW hacking, though this is literally the first thing I've ever got around to submitting. Hopefully, I'll have more content for the SMW Central community before long #w{:>}

If that's a hint for C3, I'd be interested to see what you produce.
