I still use Windows 7 and it's still working well.

Either dualboot/switch to Windows 10 or switch to Linux.
Windows 10 is very unstable even with the updates, so I'd recommend Linux.
If you're on Firefox 70+, and you don't see the blur effect, go to about:config and enable layout.css.backdrop-filter.enabled and gfx.webrender.all
For the best aesthetics, use Chrome, or with some settings, Firefox.

Colour scheme based on the awesome ViM theme, Gruvbox.
Pardon my ignorance, but why does it matter anyway? I'm not trying to argue or anything, I'm just curious. Everyone here is acting as though Windows 7 is in some way superior to Windows 10, or that it's somehow wrong of Microsoft to choose to no longer invest in obsolete operating systems.

Is there actually some advantage to 7 over 10? Because I've been using 10 for a while now and have had no issues with it that weren't present in Win7, and doing some Google searches doesn't tell me if there's anything wrong with Win10 either.

The only actual problem I've ever had with Windows 10 (other than older programs and games breaking)is the large amount of bloat processes the OS has on a fresh install, it's over 80 separate processes that use up a ton of RAM. Even after disabling most of the nonessential processes, it's still using up a lot of RAM. I don't have a ton of RAM on my computer, but it's still quite annoying.

There are a lot of advantages to Windows 10 that make it worthwhile to almost everyone, but there were a few things that I didn't like:

- A lot of things just randomly stop working until I restart my computer, even if I haven't updated Windows 10 recently. I can't count how many times I had it simply stop detecting my mouse, or had the wireless give me the "Can't connect to this device" error. I've had this issue happen on multiple computers, and I even looked it up online to see how to fix it. The only thing you can do is restart Windows...every time it happens. Windows 10's device manager has also told me once that the internet card built-in to my motherboard was unavailable because it was plugged out. Not the cable, but the entire device itself. #ab{@_@}

- The installation also pushes you to link as many accounts as possible (personal, workplace, school, etc.) and leave as much telemetry and privacy options disabled, which I guess is fine for most people, but I personally like to keep things separate instead. It doesn't help that the option to disable some of those is sorta hidden away at first.

- I also don't like booting up onto Windows only to have it randomly prompt me to enable all those options AGAIN before I can do anything else (it's a full-screen prompt, and again, the option to not enable anything is a bit hidden away, so if you're just clicking through everything you'll be screwed).

I guess at the end of the day, Windows 10 just keeps interrupting and annoying me in small but significant ways, whereas Windows 7 kept itself out of the way unless I told it not to. But like I said, Windows 10 also has a ton of advantages to Windows 7. There's no way I can recommend Windows 7 in 2020, but I can see why some people would prefer it over Windows 10.

Personally, I've had a lot of problems with Windows 10 that have not been present in Windows 7 (explorer.exe has given me a few problems with the most basic tasks, like opening it from the taskbar or Win + E). Winaero Tweaker has made my time more bearable, but I'm not sticking with the OS much longer. There's little things like how everything that was under your user in Windows 7 is now under "This PC" which is confusing. Windows also stopped allowing me to read or write to or from my USB (via File Explorer) ever since I flashed an image of Feren OS to it (I checked, and the USB is fine). That is not a coincidence.

But good job Windows 10; I was expecting a lot worse from you.

some of the folks here in this other forum are still using Windows 7

go ask some of them what they think
there was a poll on the ZDNet site in late September 2020 that asked people why they still use Windows 7:
https://www.zdnet.com/article/poll-why-are-you-still-using-windows-7/

and the results of that poll are posted in this ZDNet article.

for Windows 7? no.

either Microsoft makes them (nowadays for a price for ESU subscribers) or Win7 users could use 0patch
