Welcome to my next big project!

This is a hack that I started working on in late 2018. It started out like any other of my hacks, but this time, I wanted to create something big and ambitious, and outdo my previous hacks.
The levels in the first couple demos were not all that special (to me). It was in early 2020 where I have developed my current level design and aesthetic skills.
That's where I started to redo all of my levels. Most of the old levels have been scrapped, revamped, or replaced. The new levels are mostly inspired by modern SMW Hacks and Donkey Kong Country's Level Design.

In this hack you can choose to play as Mario or Luigi by a button press on the overworld.
The new collectibles are diamonds. There are three in every level.
maybe they'll be useful if you collect all of them?

I will not reveal the new plot yet, but i'm keeping it rather "simple", so the hack focuses more on the adventure and challenging levels, rather than a complex story.

I had a lot of fun playing this at C3, so I look forward to seeing what this turns into.

The map is good. It exists outside of the frame and it makes the geography seem bigger. Like there's more, that we won't ever get to see.

Chapter Two: Land of No Shame
Last level before the boss level





The (probably) finished world 1 map, and the world 2 map (still WIP)


Progress on 2-1, featuring blind devil's falling leafes and Darolac's Annoying bee, with swooper gfx as a placeholder for now.



2-2 is in the making! A swamp with falling blocks and a boss bass.





Judging by the DKC soundtrack, I assume you were going for the DKC level design aspect (focusing on two or more gimmicks rather than just one). #tb{:j}

Some parts of the level focused on Boss Bass, some on the falling cement blocks, some on water physics, then you slowly integrated them all together near the end.

One nitpick though:

At 1:22, the midpoint seems to be low enough to where the Boss Bass can eat the player. I'm sure that midpoint entrance is safe, but I think that collecting the midpoint should be safe as well. It would suck for a player to risk dying for collecting a midpoint in my opinion.

Other than that, I thought this was quite fascinating.

I was planning to add a boss, but since Russianman is already making the first boss of world 1 and i can't code, i'll leave out the boss for now.
Who knows, maybe i'll learn to code sprites with Erik's ASM Workshop.

Revamped the grass tileset for the levels in world 1

Some changes have been made.
First off, i completely redrew Glubita.
Second, the levels now have some HDMA and 1-2 got some palette changes to fit the sunset.
1-1 will also be completely remade.



Haven't really been hacking for like a month, but here's some small progress on 2-5



The blue mushrooms make you bounce.


I wonder what this does?



That's right! You transform into a beetle.
My idea is that in all the secret levels, you can transform into and enemy and collect dark orbs.



With the Buzzy Beetle, you can only jump one tile high and you can't run. But you can climb up walls!
This was inspired from my hack "Buzzy's World Tour" where you had the same mechanichs. (Except the wall climbing)


Thats an Realy Interresting Idea i Wonder Which Enemys Will be Added to The Idea with Wall Climbing is a Nice Addtion can The Beetle Walk on The Upper Wall To and Fall Down Like The Enemy or Thrown Blocks :D
