#17: News posts

Link Thread Closed

New FeatureResolved

I never notice when there are new News posts because I rarely visit the main page anymore and I'm sure many people don't either. I think it'd be neat to have a " - NEW" next to the News link in the menu every time one is posted.

This is also kind of hindered by the fact that apparently you can have "pinned" news posts since I've noticed several times now that recent news posts appear below older news posts (like right now with Kieran's post and Sinc-X's post) and nowhere is it explicitly stated that a post is "pinned" or prioritized. This has made me miss news posts many times now believing that the top one is the latest one.

to hear birds and see none.
I highly support this idea. In fact, I'm surprised this hasn't been done before.
Think I've suggested an indication of pinned news posts at some point (I'm tired of seeing tons of these in a row), but there will be a proper tagging system for such in the future.

That's a thing I'm been wanting since like 2012. Full support approval!

Consider also adding NEW flag for any news post made in less than 24 hours for the guests figuring it out as well.

I'm surprised I never thought of this myself, but yeah I'd be in full support of the idea. As for the pinned news stuff, yeah it can be helpful but it does get in the way of letting people realize that there's new news. Ideally I'd like to expand the news to 5 articles instead of 3 but that's beyond the scope of this thread.
Issue #17 is only vaguely related to this, but it's one of the few existing issues which cover the news system. It will soon receive a general overhaul, including everything suggested here.
