So last time y'all complained that I didn't go far enough with the @17 joke, so this time I've doubled down and made it even worse. NOT ONLY is every sound effect and instrument @17, but rather than going into the text files of the original songs and replacing everything with @17, I replaced every sample in SMW's sample folders with @17. Every instrument in SMW has it's own unique tuning, this means EVERYTHING IS DETUNED TO HIGH HEAVEN! For fun, I also flipped Mario's graphics upside down.

If you can put up with this auditory abuse and make it all the way to the end of the game, there's a reward for your efforts.

I have spent the last 24 hours reverse engineering, debugging and looking up docs. The end result is this.

SMW hacking has come to its peak.
the only thing left to do is make mode 7 boss battles a bit more fun

yes i reverse engineered the smw highland patch and added it to what telinc posted

Why do I love this? I think I found one of my favorite threads.

Well, I lied. Turns out you can go even further.
This one should, among other things, work better with mode 7 bosses (i.e. the boss won't be invisible). Layer 3 smashers are still weird though.

Also yeah anyone up for an 11-exit speedrun of this?
