The link to Things that I actually made.
has been fixed. Sorry about that.
Also, thanks. It was and still is a big adventure for me into the real of SNES
Remixing. In fact, I'm gonna give a huge speech about it:
So, I mostly used the hX & $EE $XX commands for the pitch change for any non-percussion instruments (well, $EE $XX is more of a tuning, making a song sound a li'l off-tuned, which I thought would be cool, but that's just me.) and kept it in a global macro to change quickly on the fly. If there was a song that used a pitch bend, I'd use the $E4 $XX and then use the hX command on the percussion (suggest it was $E4 $01, then the percussion would be h-1). I kinda wanted to give this soundtrack more of that "Super Street Fighter 2" feel, where a good chunk of those songs had pitch changes to make the songs sound different (heck, Guile's theme got repitched to its CPS2 version... by one note).
For The Dangerous Fight
, I ripped the Sonic 3
"GO" sample from MixerProduction's
Genesis Percussion Library (a quick google / youtube search should get you to the video with the link) instead of keeping the 8-Bit-Like Sound Imamelia had. I'm a fan of Launch Base's theme, so that's why. It's planned to be used as the second phase theme for the final boss with the Last Battle (FFA - RS2 Arrangement)
being the first phase theme for the final boss.
For that one, I ripped the sound from RicePigeon's M.U.G.E.N. Sprite for Remilia Scarlet (because she's the main villain of my
romhack)... I don't know if it's even the original or not, but it was there and it was in ENGRRISHHH, so I chose to use it.
The same thing can be said for the victory jingles. I used C700
/ Sony Acid
to rip the samples and Audacity
for speeding them up (in case of a sample exceeding the song's echo buffer / song's aram).
The change of melodies for some of my songs, like Megalovania
/ Science Blaster
), Ripple Field 1
), Divine Bloodlines
/ Septette for the Dead Princess
, are heavily inspired by SiIvagunner if it isn't obvious enough. It at least adds some more flavor to these well-beloved songs with some more beloved references within the songs rather than just having them in the game.
Some of the songs with .bnk
files I had to extract and then figure out either to use the original samples from that file or to just use new ones as if I was porting my own song using PetiteM
with the #amk 2 command. Some songs like Last Battle (Lufia 2)
and Underwater City (Rudra No Hihou)
worked alright at least, but there were somes songs that I didn't include that mostly used the original samples in the #am4 format, extracted from the .bnk
Considerably speaking, this game has three main theme songs:
- Positive & Negative
(Touhou 1) - Theme of Talia Toadstool
/ World 1-1 ground stage theme.
- Divine Bloodlines
(Castlevania: Rondo of Blood) - Theme of Apollo Totalstine
/ World 5-1 ground stage theme.
- Septette for the Dead Princess
(Touhou 6) - Theme of Remilia Scarlet
/ World 6-2 castle stage theme.
And I guess kind of...
- Panakeian Temple
(Alcahest) - Theme of Sakuya Izayoi
/ Her cutscene theme. (even though every other theme of her's is a flowering night / night of nights rip of some sort.)
Personally, just porting a song just like it's original comes out to me as bland in a way, as there's nothing completely new to it (or at least for some of the SNES / NES / Genesis ports). Remixing / SiIvagunner-ing songs is something I personally enjoy. It could be just a simple change in percussion or an edit in a song's melody, but it comes off as something more flavorful.
Songs I hope to port / remix in the future:
- Ken's Theme - Street Fighter 2 (F minor)
- Suzaku Castle - Super Street Fighter 2 (F+ minor)
- Deep in Space - Mega Man 10 (B Minor)
- Outpost - Ninja Gaiden Trilogy (C+ Minor)
I started out arranging these songs as a fellow n00b who barely knew how to insert samples correctly and now come out as someone with some experience and tons of enjoyment from SNES music remixing.
Sheesh! What a speech I gave!
