Suggestion: Separate New Alert For Unread Threads

I've been absent from the site for a long time and am currently only keeping track of a handful of threads. Several threads I've not actively read (and may not necessarily be interested in). The issue is, the big, yellow NEW alert appears next to every thread, regardless if I'm reading it or not.

The site keeps track of what threads you've read anyway. Why not have it so if you've not read a thread at all, the NEW alert is instead RED or some other colour, so at a glance users can more easily tell which threads they have and have not read. The check could easily be performed by only marking it as yellow if the site considers you to have read the OP of the thread.

EDIT: I just realised the red marker is already being used. Maybe some other colour. I'll suggest GREEN or BLUE since they're colours also found in SMW's logo.
