One of the most ambitious parts of SMWCP2 is its' completely custom OST. No ports, no vanilla tracks - just custom compositions. While many of these have stood the test of time, some songs have not quite. Some songs are a bit empty, lackluster, or mixed poorly. We are looking for our talented musicians to help improve the SMWCP2 soundtrack! The soundtrack will be attached at the bottom of this post.

SMWCP2 Soundtrack Spreadsheet

We've gathered a spreadsheet to weigh in on each song of the SMWCP2 soundtrack; So far, the opinions are from Blind Devil, me, Pink Gold Peach, Rameau's Nephew and Dr. Tapeworm. If you'd like to weigh in yourself on the soundtrack, you can download a copy of the spreadsheet here. To fill it out, all you need to do is type in your rating, and add a note to describe how the track is. When you're finished, send it to a Project Manager and we'll attach it to the spreadsheet! For those interested in revising the SMWCP2 soundtrack, you can use the spreadsheet to see other users ratings and general issues with the track. The original spreadsheet may be updated with your reviews.

As for what we're looking for with revisions, we are not looking to replace any of the old songs*. Instead, most common song feedbacks tend to be mixing issues, odd instrumental choices (begone the unfitting piano in some tracks, or the feared distortion guitar), and general lack of ADSR / samples in some tracks.

*The one exception being Doketsu no Kaze, which has so far received completely unanimous votes on being unable to be salvaged. <---As of 8/29/19, this no longer applies, due to BD managing to salvage the original song.

Once you take a song that you want to revamp, I or another project manager shall hand you the .txt music file for you to work with. If you're interested in claiming a track, please post below or on the Discord and we'll note your claim in the spreadsheet. Keep in mind that original authors have priority over the revisions on their own songs.

That should cover everything for now. If you have any questions about the soundtrack, want to discuss it, or claim or post your progress on a new song, feel free to do so here in this thread! Good luck, everybody!

SMWCP2 soundtrack, in its current state. Updated as of 9/6/2019
Okay, so I said I'd take the time to give my thoughts on each song (including their revamps) so here we go. Disabling layout as well because y'know. I'll try to be as constructive and honest as possible, but if my opinion disagrees too much with what everyone else thinks then feel free to disregard me.

btw I numbered all the songs for convenience while writing this post. (last updated august 4th) I also included Ruberjig's revamped version of Lux which was missing from the original ZIP. Just sharing in case it's useful.
yes i kinda screwed with the numbering after finding the title screen song

A couple of notes (sort of like "tags"):
(1) Everything Torchkas makes and touches is perfect
(2) 2010-2012 Jimmy really needed to tone down the volume
(3) What's up with the downsampled slap bass? It happens a lot in these revamped versions

~

Anyway:

p h e w

that's all the level songs. don't wanna bother with the extra songs i left uncommented just yet.
and sorry falconpunch it's 4:32 in the morning and i can't really be bothered to think of what song i'd pick. i'll let you know asap.
For those of you who aren't on the SMWCP2 Discord server, or don't have Discord in general, here is everything that people have done as far as revising music. More updates to come in the future.

-Blind Devil's revising his own Fire/Ice song, Check the Temperature. It's only 40 seconds he's made but oh dear lord it's amazing so far. He's also working on revising the death themes as well, but I'll get to that later, once he finishes them all.
-Maxodex has chosen to revise Song of the Seas and Spring Breeze. Now all World 4 songs are optimized and are up to code.
-Pink Gold Peach addressed the issues that Industrial Revolution had. It's a lot more powerful as a result.
-Mario on Ice has also undergone a few minor changes by Pink Gold Peach, to make the song less muddy and loud.
-Ruberjig is working on Palaces of Unease. What he has sounds great, but he's gonna try to work a bit fresher to improve the song. There was a slight debate on how the song felt like a dark song, so he's gonna see if he can try something a bit different to see if he can strike the perfect balance between light and dark.
-Dr. Tapeworm's doing the most work on Oriental Opus and Entrance as of now. I hope to hear them when he ports the completed songs!
-Pinci recently joined us, asking to revamp Let the Show Begin! So we let him. We still need to address a few issues it has, such as the quietness of the song + the SMW samples and other samples clashing with each other. But otherwise, it's a very polished song and has a lot more power to it.

That's all for now; feel free to comment and critique these musicians on their work.

Unless you already have someone, I'd like to say that I'd love to compose the Dreamer battle theme. The thematics and the demand for a climactic sensation rather inspire me.

I might also like to write out some feedback for all songs at some point, just putting it out there for now.

We say go for it. You're also free to help revamp a song or two if you're here to help with music, and want to judge some music as well.

Speaking of music, here's another update from the Discord server:

The Sirens of Titan (or, Titan's Siren, whichever you guys think is the best), by Buster Beetle (formerly the grassland song)

Thanks a lot for salvaging this song, DMB.

If you're not too busy working on your BLDC level and still want to know what's been happening on the Discord, fear not. I shall bring back the latest news this week.

-Bells of Paradice has been updated so that it fixes the issues with peaking. Pink Gold Peach, who adjusted this song, also added some jingle bells to make the song more icy, as FPzero thought it was more of a Fire/Ice theme.
-Fun at the Carnival, another song Pink Gold Peach adjusted. He replaced the drums with better samples, and gave the song more echo and ADSR so it sounded less dated.
-Burnt Ice Beats, revamped by Dippy. His revsions gave the song a lot more power, and is quite a funky beat, if I do say so myself.
-Check the Temperature, it's finally done! Blind Devil, you did an amazing job with this song.

Yep, as you can tell, it's pretty much World 8 songs that got revamped this week. Four more songs left (Magi's gonna revamp Overburn, Decoy's gonna adjust White Winter Night, and Pink Gold Peach shall fix up Ashen Snowfall. Magma Mural is still open), and then, World 8 shall be up to code! Keep it up, everybody! #smrpg{<3}

fuck man you really did it
this is actually so much better and more fitting than the original version. pon pon palace is finally a good level. awesome.
Hey guys Moose is on our Discord server and has joined the team. He hasn't revised anything yet, but he will. Anyway, other than Doketsu, we also revamped these songs:

-In the Eastern Woods. Dark Mario Bros revised this song and extended it so it was much less repetitive and just a bit longer.
-Ashen Snowfall. Merry Christmas, bitches. (Pink Gold Peach revised it)
-Floating. Once again, Pink Gold Peach tweaked the song's volume so it didn't have any peaking.

i always thought donketsu no kaze had a cool melodic structure, but it just wasn't arranged like...at all lol. very cool to hear it with effort put into its instrumentation and a little bit of reimagining to make it much more interesting to listen to.

still some noticeable mixing issues. @1 melody towards the beginning is nearly inaudible, primarily because the @6 riffs almost entirely drown it out in the lower register. quieting down the @6 bits (maybe the drums too?) would improve it further. very listenable as-is but imo there are still some improvements to be had

im probably late and all this has already been fixed but w/e i looked at this thread on my phone like a week ago lol

You aren't late, MercuryPenny. Ashen Snowfall hasn't had its minor issues fixed, and the current version you hear is the same as it was before. If you wish to help us revise songs or fix issues that some songs have (since you have been involved in the music department), you're more than welcome to. However, I would highly recommend you join the SMWCP2 Discord Server so it's easier to communicate.

Anyway, here's the latest news:

-Pinci's working on Heavier Than Air. I think it's safe to say that Flying Battery Zone's got some competition, now.
-Moose just finished revising his first song, and it's...not his sky song (he'll get to that later), but instead Lux!
