I want to use Variable Width Font Cutscene Tool but when I try to use pixi to insert it I get this error

I delete the line and it inserts but I can't get the cut scene to show up it either shows a black screen or it crashes and yes I read the readme not even hello world will work. I wonder if it's something I'm doing or not or if it's something with the code.
I'm guessing that specific error is caused by asar being more strict than xkas with its errors. However, it seems that you're trying to use the cutscene tool with pixi, which won't work either way. You'll need to use Romi's Spritetool if you really want to use those cutscenes. But remember that using Romi's spritetool means you can't use any of the sprites in our sprites section without modifying them somewhat. I guess you could try to manually convert the generated sprites to pixi, but I haven't used them myself so you're on your own with that (unless someone else wants to do it for you)
Yeah That's not going to work. I already started using pixi and I can't use Romi's Spritetool.

Edit: I had a thought, Am I able to use both? pixi for normal sprites and sprite tool for the cutscenes as long as I make sure the sprite number doesn't overlap?

Pixi
Code
00 sprite
01 sprite
02 sprite
03 skip
04 skip

Sprite tool
Code
03 vwf.cfg
04 vwf_data1.cfg

It seems like I run into the same error with sprite tool. it seems the code is out of date. I was unable to determine if this is a way around the outdated tool. I recommend that it gets updated to be used with todays sprite inserting tools
Short answer no you can't 2 sprite insertion tools on the same rom
never the less the point Daniel I mean Mr forum Moderator. I end up running into the same error.
Would running the sprites through Trashkas work? Trashkas is meant to convert ST sprites into PIXI sprites, and it comes packaged with PIXI.

Nope, as the sprite is already an xkas sprite.

Correction: Trashkas is meant to convert ST TRASM sprites into PIXI xkas sprites, and it comes used to come packaged with PIXI.

PIXI is backwards compatible with Sprite Tool sprites. Now, PIXI doesn't exactly use xkas but rather Asar which is mostly backwards compatible with xkas (it also is the same assembler in the latest Sprite Tool so VWF will cause a similar problem). But a sprite type which PIXI cannot insert at all are these which use TRASM, an ancient assembler whose latest use was in Sprite Tool (remember: the remoderation also was done to convert all sprites to use xkas/Asar).
Trashkas is named "Trashkas" because it converts TRASM code, an assembler which lived for longer than it should and therefore should have been put into the trash, into xkas code (it also is older than PIXI, go figure). The actual problem is that VWF Cutscenes is incompatible with PIXI in general (it's incredibly hacky as code, though, and therefore not very stable).

Okay, my layout looks ugly.
It's just a real crying shame that this tool was left to rot and will be left to collect dust. It's my favorite tool to use because of how diverse the tool is and what you can do with it I like. Now not only that I can't use it, other people, will not get the chance. The creator hasn't been on in 8 years and I doubt it'll get updated ever and I doubt it anyone else will update it or make a new one!

Crying shame!

RIP
Variable Width Font Cutscene Tool
worry not,
some people are still using it, there even is an old sprite archive around,
if your design choices include keeping your cutscenes for the price of sacrificing the last trendy sprite insertion tool, and what you do is functional, then why not.
Well, I shouldn't have to sacrifice anything and besides, I don't think sprite tool can be used now because of the format the sprites are made now.
another reason was stated in the comment section; the sprite runs its own game loop, which is partially incompatible with addmusick. source

i gave a look to the tool some months ago and found out that getting it to work at all requires me downloading activeperl, which requires an account for some god damn reason

it'd be infinitely more useful if the tool/script was recreated to use another language like c++ or python; fixing the asm and making it be native for pixi shouldn't be hard at all
LX5 if you can remake/update it

~mod edit removed unnecessary text and image, user was warned for this post~
Yeah let's just not do that, you really should be respectful to other members and learn to ask nicely not they and make it suggestive in any manner I'm just closing this now.
