It's been a while since I announced I wasn't going to accept donations. This was because I didn't like having a big incentive to do so; let's be honest here, we all know people who wouldn't have donated $5+ otherwise did it for the title. So I'm removing that incentive.
Donations are now accepted with the following trade-offs:
- Donating $5 or more no longer grants you a custom title. Instead, since this change would block off new custom titles entirely except to staff and as a prize for contests, custom titles will be granted to everybody.
- The donor coin icon will no longer appear in the online user list. Donor coins alongside posts and trophies in user bios will remain as-is.

I was considering a donation some day. I thought getting a custom title was like buying something you really love - you'd like to pay any amount of money for it. Welp, anything good can't be eternal. In my opinion, the best purpose of donation is a tip for friendly service.I have a Discord server as well! (by joining, you agree to the rules)

since this is a romhacking site based off of nintendo's intellectual property (esp in this age where fangames get taken down as soon as there's any form of monetization attached to it), we no longer want to offer tangible rewards for donations. better safe than sorry.
And here I thought that my incredibly (not) clever joke in my location line required a little more time to marinate in the minds of SMWC users. Well darn, now I need to think of something to put in there.
I think this was a good decision all around. Though the perks are fewer, it's kind of understandable why.
I can't be able to donate this month nor next month, though. My hands will be tied. But perhaps on January or February I might be able to.

in all honesty, i dont see the problem with "paying" 4 custom titles. its just a simple exchange of goods: send money, receive thing. considering how unrelated it is to nintendont's intellectual property, is the company really that scary that the wall had to get nixed?
assuming they are that scary, then whats the problem with reserving titles as a prize from contests? first place, top 3, whatever.

To some extent, we wanted to remove the title as an incentive to donate, since I'm sure people have donated in the past just to get the title. We wanted to try and make it so that if someone was donating, they were doing it because they actually wanted to donate to help the site and not just for the shiny benefit.
Of course, the donor coin and coin trophy both still exist so you can argue we haven't really changed much at all. But I think this will be better in the long run, and everyone will be able to enjoy using a title.
i'm not complaining - custom titles being staff/donor exclusive was always kinda weird - but this seems like a huge change to throw out without much fanfare imo
