edit: fun, I didn't look at the other votes before doing mine, but still the same tracks appear at the same rank in average. public voting must not be so bad, then. Democracy wins. I'm quite curious how the statistic calculation is handled.

I like to compose music.
Although I still find it a bit hard to transcribe them to SNES.
skyshark1 || Yes. Yes. Absolutely ridiculous use of SMW instruments, pitch modulation, panning, arpeggiators, really cool song. I do think the open hi-hat noise could've been at a lower volume, and while I very much appreciate what you've tried to do to make the snare stereo, I think it needs a bit of tuning to sound right. Awesome work, exactly what I hoped to hear.

flash || Yeah that hits the spot. Could've upped the echo volume a bit in the breakdown, it really makes the lead there shine! Still really appreciate it regardless of that though.

spaceharrier || The hi-hats annoy me a bit, but this gets a high spot on my list purely because of the combination of stereo image, echo and ADSR. Stellar.

Batman - Stage 2 (Chemistry For Beginners) || Sweet! Nice rich instrumentation, rich stereo image, really funky!

Doki Doki Panic - Ending 2 || I'll say first of all that there's a really jarring off-key note at 0:44 on #6. Outside of that though, smashing! A very bright and imaginative interpretation of the original song.

mm2_wind || Not bad! A few off notes in the bass and chords here and there, and the lead is a little bit jarring here and there (contrast at sudden volume changes), but otherwise not bad. Really nice echo.

Mega Man 3 - Wily Stage 1 (16-bit) || The pitch-bends and panning make this song. Drums are a bit flat, and instrumentation/ADSR isn't that impressive, but those details still make it a nice listen.

Let Me Know The Truth || I'm really curious what game this song is originally from! I really like the composition. I think the loop isn't as clean as it could've been, and you could've probably done more to enrich the stereo image of this song, but besides that this is a nice little ditty.

zantkntttata || Really unimaginative stereo, and that bongo annoys the heck out of me, but cheers for the slapp!

72hoSPC || First of all, not bad use of @17! Could've done more to make it sound better though. For clean SMW instrumentation, I think this is a rather interesting song.

004_mus || Definitely doesn't make any mistakes, but it by no means jumps out. Nice song I suppose, but it could've used some more depth.

steel || I'll give you this, you positively surprised me. But this truly needs to be less muddy, and have either harmonic content or a more enforced melody to get much praise out of me.

Castlevania - Stage 2 || This one fell a bit flat on its face. (Most of) the notes are there, it's just that there's no meat to this song. Stereo image is nice, but it doesn't save the dreadfully dull use of instrumentation in this arrangement.

Shadow Man || Not a fan. Instrumentation, mixing, ADSR, all of it isn't working in this song's favour. Needs some TLC, but would be cool if it could be improved upon.

---

Yeah uh, I only had two days for my song due to life trying to mess me up, didn't manage to get it finished in time. I wonder why.

Will definitely be revisiting this song to finish it, and to put in not-crappy instrumentation hahaha.

There were a lot of closely-matched entries this time around! A huge thank you to everyone for participating and voting, and congratulations to our winners! Trophies will be handed out shortly. See you guys next time!
congrats to all of my wonderful boys
Sad I couldn't participate this time around because life got in the way, but I really liked a lot of the entries! Congrats to the winners!
haha, nice, didn't expect to get this far with my rushed AF entry, so I feel pretty happy for the results :V

btw uh, here's a fun fact: when 72hoSPC started, I actually was working on another port entirely, but sadly I kind of misinterpreted what the challenge was specifically (mainly because I didn't understand what "predate" meant in that context; stupid reason, I know), and instead I made a port that's after SMW's Japanese release date instead of before; to make up for it, I just hurriedly made a port of the Space Harrier main theme since it's a 1985 Arcade game (which was the safest bet), the music was really great for 1985 standards, and I was going to cover it at one point anyway, so I just decided to do it now :P

and before anyone asks, I have spent two days while making the SPC I made for this initially, so no matter what the Space Harrier port I made would've sounded rushed anyway #smw{^_^;} (here's the SPC in question btw; as you can see, there's a lot more effort spent in it, maybe a bit too much if you ask me)

I'll try and make it sound a bit better later on btw, and maybe I might even release both ports and more at a certain point as well, who knows #wario{;)}

Damn that was so close haha I'm happy I won, although Sinc's port probably deserved it more :)
It was cool to participate, since it forced me to use the SMW soundfont which I basically never use and it led to some interesting experimentations.

Yeah, ngl, that one was absolutely great, and especially good for a game before 1990 (since video game music wasn't nearly as advanced back then for it to sound this good) and honestly once I saw how that entry sounded like, that's when I saw how I had absolutely no chance at winning, and that either your entry or Sinc's would've taken the spot, which then pretty much became more apparent after voting started haha; I'm not even mad tho, there were some great entries throughout here, and I'm honestly happy enough that I got third place despite the fact I clearly could've done better lmao

and btw, since I got curious before and asked bebn about Sinc's entry, here is the original version of it:

with how much I know about his VGM tastes, I'm not surprised in the slightest that this was going to be his entry :V

Just a quick note, but 72hoSPC no longer uses the 24hoSMW trophies, and now has its own distinct set of trophies instead!

(1st, 2nd, 3rd, and Participation respectively)

As well, all old incarnations of the contest have had had the 24hoSMW trophies replaced with the new ones, and participation trophies handed out for the sake of consistency.
Man, I never do well in these contests. Still, though, I basically banged that out in about 3 hours, so I can't complain too much I was originally going to do To Make the End of Battle from Ys 2, but I figured that it would be more trouble than it's worth to port during an already short contest that I jumped in halfway through.
Congratulations to the winners! You deserved it.
